Right ive decided that i can bear my fiesta no longer and need to get the gearbox sorted on the Toledo V5.

Question is does anyone know what the gearbox code is (2000 X reg Toledo V5 10v) ??

and would an 02J gearbox from a 99 Bora V5 fit as thats the closest cheapish 2nd hand box ive found.....

and clutches

anything cheap but good out there??

found a euro car parts clutch kit for around £100 or GSF for a bit more....

Finally what else should i have done/checked whilst the clutch/gearbox swap is being done??

Slightly off topic ...did the vr6 golfs have 6 speed boxes?

No. I was never that impressed with that range of golfs. I used to have a 2L 16v and a mate had a vr6. Great engines and build quality but the bang to buck ratio was way too low. Typical VW. One thing that hasn't changed on VAG cars since then is dodgy electrics, which I've never experienced with other German marques.

I used to have a Laguna, mark 1 I think. It was a 2.0 RXE and had a lot of kit in it. Typically most of it went on the blink and Renault bless them were next to useless. Thank God for manufacturers warranties!

However i had a scare today in my V5. I was racing along an A road at 60ish and I suddenly couldn't change gears and was stuck in neutral mid gear change! I had to pull over and after a few calls found out that my clutch hadn't gone (!) but the master cylinder might have. It was certainly playing up and is part of the hydraulic system. Apparently its a common fault during cold weather but is very scary anyway and potentially dangerous. The solution is to put your foot under the clutch pedal (which is now close to the floor) and slowly raise it. Then you should be able to continue normally. If it happens again thats another thing to get checked out.

sounds like my fiesta im currently driving, the clutch ratchet is missing a few teeth so every so often it'll make a crunch noise and no gears are available until you pump the pedal a couple of times and it latches onto new teeth lol cars eh
Between the three cars i own you'd have thought i'd be able to make one decent one lol
oh well hopefully the gearbox will arrive soon and i can start getting the seat back on the road, its been far too long without it!! :(

Seat is back on the road after far too long off it!! Gearbox and clutch fitted and engine mount bolted up nicely. Interior blower motor sorted again now as well which is nice. Had to get a new driveshaft though :( but one from a newer shape Polo was exactly the same (different part numbers but exactly the same splines and everything :) )

New problems now though, apparently the dual mass flywheel is going to need replacing soon due to wear. Now i dont want to touch it really if its going to cost me the earth but there are single mass conversions available for the 1.8 and 1.9 VAG engines for just a couple of hundred.

Anyone got any experience of the dual mass flywheels on V5's and any solutions would be welcome.

Cheers
