My 1.4 has 10cm (4 inch) speakers in the dash when i bought it. It also had the wiring in place from the headunit to the doors and in the doors. Ive now got front components wired up. 17cm speakers in the doors, tweeters in the dash with crossovers.

I was thinking today, didnt the gti come tweeters and door speakers? So i was thinking, would it be possible to use the standard wiring to wire up both the speakers and tweeters. I was going to wire the tweeters to the standard wiring for the dash speakers and the door speakers to the standard wiring from the headunit to the door and just remove the crossovers.

Would this be possible?? Its just a thought and wondered if it would be worth it.

Thanks in advance.

mate do not wire up your components in this way it will seriously affect the sound of your speaker. Your crossover was designed for these speakers to send the right signals to the tweeter and the mid, if you bypass the crossover youve mucked this up. Id say, spend a little time and effort and wire them properly!

Ive been wiring my system up for nearly two months now still aint finished lol but its gettin there

Yes, the Gti did have tweeters in the dash and speakers in the door, as did my . Ive just replaced the salsa tweeters with some 10cm speakers with the uprated door speakers, sound is awsome.

krishen no offence meant by this dude but im sure ur idea of awesome sound is different for actual awesome sound as you have nothing awesome to compare to, putting speakers in that stock location would not sound awesome unless you aimed the speaker correctly and amped them, buying a three way setup and amping them would sound good so u would have tweeters probably in the mirrir plate location, 17cm in the door and whatever the other size is in the dash all aimed correctly and amped properly, this would then sound 'awesome'

Is there a benefit to be had by upgrading the standard speakers? I.e. taking them out and putting in, say, some more expensive ones? This is coming from an ICE ignoramus, btw.

So just leave everything as it is??

Right i think i will just leave everything as it is. With the wiring plug in the door i cut the cables on the inside of the car that were from the headunit to the doors and connect the cables from the crossovers to that.

I will just move my cross overs i think as they are currently mounted on the underside of the rear speaker grilles. Dont know where to move them to as i need access to them because you are able to change how many decibels are being sent to the crossovers, you are able to add 3 decibels if required.

Yeh i agree. Its nowhere near the best sound in the world. But compared to what it was, it sounds 'awsome', to me anyway :p

lol sorry krishen i was having an off day, didnt mean to go off on one lol!!

Right, if any of you guys are interested in upgrading your sound system pm me and i will endeavour to help you.

Alpine white, if you are happy with the stock sound system then yes leave it as it is but ofcourse there is benfit to be had by upgrading, this all depends on what you upgrade to obviously!

Cruiser87, you do not need to access your crossovers, if you have a decent headunit you can adjust from there id set the gain on the crossover to what you want then install them. Take the two speaker wires in the door and they go to the in on the crossover then just run speaker wire from overside of crossover to speaker and tweeter. Ideally you would amp the front speakers so instead of using the OEM speaker wire as an input that is coming directly from your hu you would use the amp output to go to the crossover input

Hope this helps people

That is my plan in the long run to amp the front speakers. They are currently being run by my headunit. But I think im going to amp them. I will probably get another amp or get a multi-channel amp so i can run my sub and the speakers from the one amp. The front speakers being powered by the headunit is temporary!
