Odd alarm trip

Hi All,

My other half currently has the 'manual' key that goes with the Leon and I have the radio key... for the first time last night she got to the car before me and opened the drivers door with the key, the door unlocked but upon opening the door the alarm went off... now being a big of a girly she wasnt sure what to do so called me... I arrived and the alarm had stopped sounding, until I opened the unlocked drivers door when it started again! I unlocked, relocked then unlocked the door with the radio key and all was well again... any idea what the problem was? We are going to try and replicate it at the weekend but thought i would ask here first. There is no reference to any special opening method that i can see in the manual.

the ignition must be switched on within 15 secs of opening the door to turn the alarm off. otherwise it sounds.

When you use the spare key you need to open and get into the car right away

if you open the door and leave it the alarm will go off

hi gerry,

yep, ive had that too..its weird! i think the car it still alarmed when you use the manual key and it only opens the drivers door.

only way i have found to disable the alarm is to stick the manual key in the ignitiona nd give it a twist. i think then you see the lights flash for the alarm diabling and then all the doors unlock.

you will most definatly be able to replicate this im sure of it as it keeps catching me out. its a bit of a pain!!

Fantastic. You guys are a font of knowledge

The missus has at least three bags and other jackets / scarves / cardigans etc to manage when getting in the bloody car so i bet she opened the door then started de-handbagging etc which would have taken WAY more than 15 secs

So, if I was to break into a Leon, I would have 15 seconds to open the bonnet and cut the wires to the alarm horn?

You would need the spare key for this to work... then you could simply start the car as normal and save the hassle of cutting the wires etc

immobilizer is the only thing that will shut the alarm off

so if u dont have the key it will go off

Irfan, does that mean that you have to have the key with the immobiliser transponder in / near the car then for the alarm to stop sounding? Is that maybe the difference between opening the car with the key and the screwdriver - the transponder?

to open the car its almost impossible without the key so if someone breaks the glass it will go off, the car wont start without the transponder i'm guessing thats how it works anyway
