Bumper Protector / Front Centre Armrest / MPG

Hi All,

Does anyone know where to get hold of a rubber protector that fixes to the upper edge of the bumper / threshold to the boot? I've seen stainless steel ones on ebay, just wonding if anyone knows of any others out there.

Whilst i am at it, does anyone have experiience of the front centre armrest extension (leather)? It is a Seat Accessory listed on the Seat Website. I am used toi having a high centre armrest and this would be just the job, has anyone got one?

One last piont my Altea is a 2.0 Tdi Sport (manual) on a 56 plate. I've not had it long and it only has 3200 miles on the clock. It is currently returning between 40 and 45mpg. I thought it would be better than this, nearer 50mpg. I have put it down to the engine not having lossened up properly. What do you get from yours?

I have 05 plate 2ltr tdi sport with 16" wheels & 44k miles. I never get under 50mpg unless i drive well above road legal speeds. I would say im averageing 55mpg on the whole

On Sat I did a 150 mile journey (mostly at cruise control 60mph) and only averaged 46mpg.

I really can't understand how you would AVERAGE 55mpg even taking into account your mileage and that it is an Altea, not an XL.

'only' averaging around 50mpg in my 12k 1.9tdi which doesn't sound that good after reading what your 2.0tdi's are returning

I too am missing a usable armrest. Got my seat at its lowest setting and still not able to rest my arm in a comfortable position

I have the front centre armrest in black leather (it's actually more like charcoal).
Makes a huge difference. Cost me 90 quid.

If only they made them for the door. My rock hard drivers door arm rest gives my right elbow no end of jip.

My 2.0 diesel XL averages 41 mpg and I nail it everywhere.

My previous 2.0 diesel Octavia 2 saloon did never less than 49 mpg and I drove it like I stole it for all 100,000 miles.

My figures are from the car computer & not doing the calculations manually. Which are apparently more accurate.

I use cruise control as often as possible as I’m lazy & it does a better job than I at keeping to a set speed.

I did a journy a month or 2 back on good A roads & kept to 60mph & no higher, averaged 62mpg. Again this was from the onboard computer readings, not the more accurate manual method.

I don’t think i drive to slow either, my wife is always telling me to slow down etc.

BTW, that size wheels do u have, for some bizarre reason the 16" wheels make for much better fuel economy.

Our altea 2.0tdi dsg (17 inch wheels) is averaging 45mpg on the long term trip, although that is probably 41/42 real world.

On a recent trip to the lake district we covered 1200 miles and averaged 49mpg with a mix of driving, i was taking it easy to see what it could do, i often wonder what real world difference there is between the manual and auto, by the book it's about 2mpg.

As for the armrest, really miss it after my leon having one, even though the dsg renders my left arm redundant most of the time!

2.0TDi Special Edition,manual gearbox-2500 miles on clock,now averaging 41 mpg on mixed driving according to the computer,mpg is definitely improving slightly as engine loosens up,I 'll be happy if it achieves 45 mpg when fully run in.Definitely not as economical as the 1.9TDi.

Banditdog, the fuel consumption on my 140 Sport is the same as yours as it sounds like l drive like you. Can achieve over 50 if l try, but what's the point of having the mid range grunt if you don't use it. Getting a 170 XL in January so l expect the consumtion will drop a bit then.

Tabintab, the subject of different size wheels should not make a difference, the rolling circumference of the 16 inch wheel with a standard tyre and the 17 inch with a lower profile tyre is the same. Perhaps the 16's have a lower rolling resistance?

But overall if you like the car, which l do hence l'm getting another one, does a few miles extra per gallon really matter.

Had my Altea 2.0 TDI 140 Sport for a couple of months now, and I get about 43-45 mpg on average (according to the trip computer) - which equates to between 460 - 500 miles to a tank of diesel. I did think I'd get better, but as I came from a BMW 325i Sport Auto (28 mpg tops) I'm not complaining too much - the mid range grunt is amazing and well worth the slight penalty!

drove a 300ml round trip in my bros 170 xl the other day, goes like a rocket and still returned 45mpg !!

Having had my 1.9tdi for a few weeks now I am getting concerned about how it seems to have affected my back. Tried all sorts of seat/wheel/lumbar positions but don't seem to be able to get comfy, its as though my seats slightly leaning to the left ?? Also, this is my first manual for several years so I'm hoping its just me using different muscles with my left foot now being needed ??

if it doesn't improve soon, may have to go for a 'massage'

Tufty, I too suffered trying to get comfy in the seats. Always felt as if my LHS was sitting on top of the side support whereas rest of body was comfy "inside" the seat.

However after taking advice from another forum member (Altea Ego) I adjusted my seat to be at its highest position, thus making the back more upright and now I am sitting "in" the seat with the supports at both sides and a lot more comfortable.

I totaly agree with u on circumferance.

I remembered from a long time back when wheel size & mpg was discusion point. The conclusion was Altea's with 17" wheels got less mpg, though i dont recall anyone giveing a reason why or how.

funnily enough, when I first got the car the seat was set at full height which I tried for only a couple of days before I started to try other positions. Think in view of what you've said I'm going to give it another go at highest setting
