Hi guys,

was driving home tonight and my engine cut out , no sign or reason why. I fixed my horn today but all electrics appear fine. Only thing unusual is the oil light on the dash stays on when ignition on. There is oil in the car, I am unsure of when the oil light goes out though and as it wont start cant see if it goes out once been started. Any help please.

Cheers.

The oil light stays on when you turn the ignition on i.e when headunit etc are working but engine isnt running. When you start the engine the oil light stays on for a few seconds then goes off. It would only stay on when the engine is running if there is no or very little oil in the car.

Let me guess...

2.0 8v AGG?

1. Fuel pump relay
2. IAC valve
3. TPS

recommendations....

clean out throttle body and crankcase vent with carb cleaner spray. If problem persists change the fuel pump realy (no. 12 iirc)

 mine is doing it now

Driving along, then the oil light flashes and the car cuts out. Starts again fine and oil level is fine.

191906383C

That is the VW part number for the fuel pump relay. Think i shall start with that as the car didnt cut out at idle (that would lead me to think IAC valve)

Checked fuel, seems ok, checked Cam belt, Ok, no spark but before I started changing bits I managed to get hold of a VAG tool which diagnosed that my imobilizer was blocking the engine start (as it should LOL) but for no apparent reason, do you or anyone else have any idea what relay / fuse runs the imobilizer?

Thanks again for all the help.

chek the electrics...Mine had the same problem. The AA diagnostics came up with Crank Position Sensor. I changed that, however the car still failed to start!

Gave it to my mechanic for a few days and he went through all the electrics. In the end, it turned out to be the wires which go to the ECU!

I have an 8v cordoba gt, i used to have problems with the car not starting, sometimes it used to cut out too.

Mine had a problem of eating ignition coils. In 3 1/2 years i have replaced it twice, and i think it is giving up the ghost yet again.

When mine does not start first time (usually 3 or 4 atempts) i open the bonnet and fiddle about with the coil, (black box near the windscreen on passenger side). Seems to do the trick.

Hmm mine does some similar **** to this..

when i try to push past 2500rpm i get this spitting effect, quite annoying and the car really hesitates, if i get it up to 3K+ i get what can only be described as my engine cutting out but then kicking back pretty much straight away which makes it jump and kangaroo like a pro..

The weird thing is, if i let it jump around for abit whilst trying to keep the power down the engine will then die and wont start back up even whilst engine braking(Which it should). I turn the key off, turn it back on and voila fires up again, may even run for a minute with no hesitation but then its back to full on war fare.

Really annoying when sticking foot down in 2nd its really offensive when it happens. I've changed the Knock Sensor, had the plugs out and checked the leads, changed the dizzy cap and rotor but to no avail.

i've checked that single lead and it seems to be nice tight fit.. even weird'er is that sometimes the car will run sweet like there is no problem, most of the time i get this miss fire **** and feels to be running very weak...

Any way of testing the coilpack?
