Burning smell/Seat garage

Evening all,

Only registered this evening lol.

I got a 2001 Cupra which has done 61k.

Took the car for a drive and gave it a lil bit of right foot. Got home and opened the door and had a wiff of something rubbing/burning. Don't know whether this was from the turbo being hot and heating the material on the bonnet. Put a light down into the engine bay but couldn't see anything rubbing.

This has only happened this evening, although i have only driven the car for just over a week.

Could this be from the engine beginning to overheat or something!! Any reply would be helpful

Thought people in the South Wales/Bristol area might find this helpfull. Had the car in with Seat in Caldicot (Thompson and Thompson) for cambelt, waterpump, guide roller and brake fluid, only paid £350 for the lot, bonus!!!
Although this was that I didn't pay for an hours labour as they had to wait for a part. Good service and had a courtesy car (Kia Picanto 1.0ltr).

I read about that plastic bag thread, will check tomorrow when its light. I know its odd, I had the smell come out of a machine at work and that was plastic so will have a good check.

I didn't use the brakes that much mate, i put my nose to the engine/side panel gap and could smell it through that.

The garage was good, could have given a better car. It started shakin going from 40mph upwards. Nearly fell off the chair when she told me how much!!!

if you wee giving the car a bit of abuse id say the clutch and brakes were jsut getting excited , monitor it , especially when driving easy , if it happens day to day , definately get a second opinion

Nah it ain't the first time I have given it stick, gave it some stick on the way home when I first bought it lol.
I still got the smell even when taking it easy so took the car back to Seat. The guy had a look but couldn't find any melted plastic. Said might be the new parts which were put on the car when they did the cambelt. If you still get the smell, bring the car back, so I will keep a nose out lol.

Well my next question was gonna be did it only start doing this after you'd had the work done by Seat but you've just answered that.
Like you said, sounds like you've got a half decent dealer there.
