Panel Filter TFSI

Anyone changed the panel filter yet? I don't want to go down the road of intake kit.

I was reading the service handbook and it doesn't get changed for 6 years. I changed the filter in my Mini early at 20,000 miles instead of 50,000 miles and it was stinking, putting the "performance" panel filter in made a noticable difference to throttle responce. I've done nearly 15k now so it could be getting clogged??

Also I believe the filter is under the engine cover anyone know of nay guides to removing this?

I've gone for the Carbonio Intake Kit, but its effectively a panel filter with a Carbon cold air intake, instead of the factory cold air intake. Gives the car a nice growl under boost.

However, if you want just a panel filter, then they are easy to replace.

RED: Detach any pipe clips attached to the engine cover, dead easy they just unclip or pop open.

GREEN: Detach the lead from the MAF, the MAF is top left hand side of the engine cover as shown. The plug can be a bit awkward, if i remember correctly its got like a little bit you must push in as you pull to release it.

YELLOW: Give the engine cover a good hard tug upwards, and i mean a good hard tug, it will be well seated on its rubber grommets.

Once you have the engine cover off, turn it over and the panel filter is in a compartment cover thats accessed by removing several phillips screws, as far as I remember.

Reomve the OEM filter, and replace the new after-market panel filter in the same position. I think it can only go in one way anyway, they have a corner cut out of the filter so its straightforward enough to know which way it goes in.

Put the compartment cover back in place, and put the screws back in place.

Re-attach the engine cover by lining up the grommets underneath (remember to make sure no pipes or cables get snagged) and push the engine cover back in place. Re-attach all hoses and clips, not forgetting the MAF.

It's a bit of a rushed guide from memory, but its not rocket science. Hope it helps.

Yer better response, don't get me wrong its not going to give you a lot of extra power if any. Torque is supposed to be improved, the car certainly pulls better with the Carbolognese than with the OEM intake. But I need to get it rolling roaded again to see what difference it has physically made to the numbers.

Nice mod though, its a bit pricey, but give it a blast and you can really hear it roar.

Always has to be one nitpicker As Clarkson would say. Do you have a beard?

Told you it was rushed. I used a Cupra as an example because thats my experience, but as I said, its not rocket science.

Take your time, look what pipes are clipped on, don't snag any pipes or cables and jobs a good un.

Ohh...interested in the answer to this one as I might get a panel filer for my TDI too. Also is there any point to having a CAI/SRI for an oil burner?

Just been and taken the cover off and checked the original filter its in a lot better condition than I'd imagined, although I will change it soon.

Although the rubber mounting gromets on the engine have not gone back in at all. I'd imagine it will be easier when the engines warm so the rubber will pop through the receiver easier. Any other tips??

A with the Carbinara filter I know you say it gives a nice roar but is it obstusive in everyday normal driving including motorways, I'd like a more sporty note with the car but it has to be subtle.

Anyone got anyone got any comments / reviews about the carbonia filter, I'm tetmpted but only if the sound is ot to obtrusive.

I read a comment of the Skoda forum that it accentuated the blow off valve, any comments?

Sorry Rob, missed this, got a busy week on at the moment.

Its not intrusive at all. You can't hear it in the cabin. Wind your window down and give it some beans up the road, then you can hear it. It will only make sound under hard acceleration.

Cruising on the motorway, its just as it is without one.

Basically its a nice induction noise only under acceleration. Its not like you've got Simba the Lion under your bonnet all the time.
