DUMP VALVE with whoosh, but without loosing power?

However, the Leon needs a recirc valve to keep the turbo spinning when changing gear so when you put your foot back down on the pedal, the turbo is still spooled. Getting rid of the air will lose that presure and lose power.

Dan, I totally understand where you're coming from, hence the thread being titled "DUMP VALVE with whoosh, but without loosing power?" because I didn't know if there was one.

Sounds like this splitter is the best bet because If I do find out that the car is loosing power then I can switch it over to the 'recirc only' option and sacrifice the sound but gain more power than the stock valve. I know it sounds imature to want a whoosh sound but truth is I've wanted a turbo for ages, I've recently sold a 230bhp mazda RX8 because the petrol was draining my pocket, the leon cupra was a better cost effective comprimise, leaving me £££ to modify.

Fair play for having the RX8 though....I know they're thirsty on the fuel! Well, if its what you want then the splitter valve IMO won't give you the effect your after. I think you'll need an induction of some sort i.e. the BMC I hinted at earlier. When I had one fitted to mine, it made plenty of noise :)

Friend of mine has the splitter valve with a green panel filter and there is still little noise coming from it. Even with the remap, its not loud.

Is'nt it a bit more than just keeping the turbo spinning? That's what all DV's do anyway recirc or not.

I understand that on the VAG 1.8T (and any other engine with a Mass Air Flow Meter) a recirc valve is needed because the ECU has read the amount of air flowing and adjusted the fuel air ratio, ignition and timing accordingly. Therefore dumping the air will cause a discrepancy in what should be there and what is which may lead to engine damage.

Engines with Air Pressure Metres (Scoobys, Evos etc) adjust the fueling according to the pressure passing over the meter so fuel, ignition and timing is calculated differently. Therefore these type of engines can dump the air into the atmosphere with no negative effects.

This is only what I understand and could be wrong (brace for bashing)

I have heard the the Forge Split-R does work well with the VAG engine though.

i had a 007 then got the splitter cos i wanted the noise BUT cos its only half n half its not too loud unless at 3000 rpm so im thinkin of gettin rid of the spongy stuff on the under side of the bonnet cos this has to be muffeling it a bit ?????

Well that to me sounds perfect, I'd rather have the whoosh only when I put my foot down (i.e.over 3000rpm).

So is there any one else who can add comments on a forge split-r? as comments so far are mixed!

iv just took the spongy stuff out from the underside of my bonnet and the splitr is alot louder especialy from inside the car. iv only got a k&n panel filter so it cud be louder still with a good induction kit .

Mine chatters like a monkey on smack, im running a open cone with direct cold feed and a 007p why does it do this? i don't know but it certainly turns heads at only 16psi it chatters loud when its wound up to 21psi its like a high pitch drill.

from my recent unfortionate experience it appears that the splitter r valve is fine when the car has been mapped...however on a standard lcr it generates a fault code and causes the car to only boost to approx 4psi!

i have a friend who has a bailey dv on their car octavia (vrs) its an atmospheric one and doesnt cause any probs i thought i go for the forge 007 jus t be safe with my leon cupra tho!

Yes - you can trust forge to do the job properly - it's their piece of kit - nobody knows more about it

Remapping is altering the ECU settings to make the car produce more power - generally timing, turbo boost and fueling are altered to achieve this. Trusted mappers are custom code, revo, bell auto services etc etc etc - you'll be looking at £300-£500

The splitter is your only safe option for producing the 'whoosh' without risking throwing up engine fault lights etc

induction kits are a whole other ball park and it really depends what you want.

do a search, there is a HUUGGEEEE thread titled something like "the induction kit war - what does your car suck on".

read that!

I had all that before and got fed up with it so won't be doing it again, v tidy engine bay tho.
