When should the turbo kick in

Hi All :D

I've had a search through the threads but couldn't find my answer, I just wanted to know what revs the turbo should kick in on my late 52 plate cupra, 40000k miles.

At the moment my turbo kicks in just above 2000rpm, is this normal, I thought it should be more around 2500 -3000.:confused:


Also the other morning (a very cold morning)when I started up the temperture light beeped at me, after a few mins I turned the car off and on again an the beep and light went and has not happend again since, is this just because it was really cold or is the sensor on the way out, ps I hadn't driven the car for a few days

think it varies from car to car doesnt it?... obviously theres a value where its "around" but.. depends on what else you did to the car.. if its standart etc

the beeps i have at the moment lol...a few people have it on here, i tend to ignore it, as i had my coolant sensor replaced a few months back, and put it down to the EXTRE cold morning as it only happens then

If the external temparature is below 5 Degrees, it'll beep at you - if the temp drops below 5 while you're driving, it'll beep at you - Usually scaring the beejesus outta ya....

There was a post the other day saying all you need to do is with a small flat blade screw driver scrape the metal sensor terminals that are in the coolant bottle to remove the coating of lime scale build up on them and enjoy beep free driving:)
Not tried it myself yet but will soon as it will save the £18 or so for a new bottle

i think this is to do with the coolant sensor beeping at you due to extreme cold, give it a while to warm up, it will go away. I think they just stick.
In regards to the LC turbo spooling up, I think they are around the 2000 mark where as the LCR are a little over this. This is due to difference in size of turbo. The rule is a smaller turbo will spool up quicker but run out of steam quicker but bigger turbo's take a little longer to spool but will continue blowing that bit longer.

It's supposed to beep at you - it's a warning that the external temp is below 5 degrees and there may be ice on the roads.

On the first cupra's (180bph with the K03s turbo), it starts to boost at 1,850rpm, full boost around 2,700, then die's off after 5,000 (drops like a stone after 5,500)

Hmm, if any car is still going after that many, i'd be surprised if the turbo kicked in at all

2,000 RPM here for my K03S Turbo. Incidentally, the KO3s was fitted to later LC models, right? Earlier ones, such as the non-facelift had the K03 turbo.. that's what I was led to believe?

AUQ = K03S. (Slightly more tuneable?)

I can hear my turbo begin to spool from about 1700ish RPM but I don't feel the boost until 2,000.

On my old LC (54 plate now for sale at arnold clark for £10488 bloody cheek!) boost started from about 1600 then pulled round to about 6200

Considering how small the standard turbo is on the LC, the boost throughout the rev-range is quite respectable. Especially considering it runs at a very, very safe PSI as standard. Further testiment to the strength of the engineering..

I do find the turbo tends to drag a little past 6k, though... the old-fashioned trade off. Twin turbos forever.
