Potential Cupra owner with some questions

Hello, I am looking to buy a Cupra T 02-03 plate and have a few questions.

I had a look at one the other day with 56000 on the clock. When should I look at replacing the cambelt and how much does it cost at a dealer?

The idle rev was a bit up and down on the car I saw. Is this normal?

In your opinions, is the Cupra R worth the extra money? I haven't driven one yet but am wondering if it is that much better/more powerful?

The exhaust on the one I looked at was hanging quite low I thought. He said it was normal. Is that true? What's the deal with exhausts on Cupras?

If I decided on the Cupra T and not R, but I wanted the extra power, what is the best remap to go for and what will I get for my money?

What are the biggest problems on Cupras? The guy who owned it said he has had no problems in the 3 years he has had it. I read in Which magazine's car review special that the Leon was a bit hit and miss when it came to reliability.

That's about it, thanks in advance for your answers.

Cambelt should probably be changed at 60k for safety sake - so i would ask for this to be done before you consider buying it.

Mine has always been a little bit wobbly (as was my Golf 1.8T previously) - nothing to worry about unless its fluctuating quite a lot.

I'd have to say yes - the price difference in the used market is so low for what you get extra. 210/225bhp, Brembos, better handling, better looks, better wheels, better seats.

Exhaust hanger has probably perished - mine went after a year and im forever getting it re-welded at local garages. Probably just needs fixing.

Personal preference really. Tons of companies around now. Some companies like REVO offer trials which can be the best way to see if you like it.

It really just has the typical problems the MK4 Golf did. Nothing major to worry about.

If your looking to remap the car your better off spending the money on the R
A very good remap with £1,000's spent on say Front mount intercooler, indution kit, free flowing exhaust and down pipe you'll get 250BHP
On a R you'll get 250 bhp just with a remap without spending money on the extras
So if it costs you even £2,000 more for an R and you want more power you'll still be better off
