Hi,

as you may have seen, i took delivery of a leon cupra r yesterday.

One thing i need to do is change the front brake disks. A friend of mine has very kindly offered to fit them for me for 2 packets of crisps and a kirly-whirly (or money equivalent!)

Wheres the cheapest place to buy them?

Also, is it worth sticking with manufacturer ones, or would i be better off getting different versions and even look at replacing the rears?

A mate of mine in the parts department for VW said they are the same as the V6 4motion disks from a golf - is that right?

Cheers

Chris

not same disks as vw. 323x28 brembo is what you have. vw dont run those
choices of disk frok brembo to ebc options and prices.

OE brembo £104+vat each
EBC turbo groove £89+vat each
EBC plain £59+vat each

reccommended pads are ferodo ds2500's Stop Tastic!

Hi, i think your the best guy to speak to on hear about my brakes. The front pad and disks are getting low and i need an MOT next month. I have gone to GSF and the can supply the front pads, rear disk and rear pads for £115+vat. Thats sounds pretty resonable. I am also assured they are original too. However they can't get or stock brembo standard brake disks for the front. Now the big question is, can i have stock pads with other types of disks, or would i need brembo disks? if there are any alternatives, what else could i go for?

Many thanks.

cheapest alternate supply of 323x28 disks are EBC plains.. £59 each+vat list
I doubt the front pads are original galfer from GSF, more likely mintex something or other.

Its your call on whether the aftermarket pads will be as good as what you have had before.

If runngin std spec pads, then plain disks should be "ok" also, HOWEVER... if they're hard used brakes, the pads might overheat, cooking the binder and this can result in high disk wear

Bill,

With these changes to pads and disks, would you recommend changing the guide pins and spring on the Brembo calipers? I was told by my mechanic last that the next time I change the front pads I should change out the spring and guide pins.

The guy assured me they are brembo pads at the front. however they don't supply the disks which they say can only be brought from SEAT for £240 for the pair. Been looking around and the other alternative is to spend around £229 for both fron at rear pads which are vented grooves.

FRONT DISCS are 323mm x 28mm VENTED

REAR DISCS are 256mm x 22mm VENTED

However this is from ebay, and im not too sure on the seller but he does have plenty of buyers who own LCR'S and apparently they work perfectly fine with std brembo pads.

If this is the case then i can probably save a bit if money and buy the pads from GSF and get the disks from this ebay seller.

Works out a hell of a lot cheaper.

Have a look....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-LEON-CUP...ryZ23013QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Tell me what you think.

Thanks Bill.

I bought my grooved brembo's from the same seller on ebay, I think they buy them from seat and add the grooves themself.

Whats your overall verdict on them? worth going for it?

Oh and do you still use the std brembo pads with them too?

Thanks.

I can recommend the seller as they were very good, i bought the grooved front brembo's and the EBC's for the rear. I can't really comment on the EBC disks for the front as i've never used them,

Just checking to make sure you know that the discs in the ebay link you posted are EBC not brembo

As for pads i have ferodo ds2500 on the front and EBC redstuff on the rear

Have a search for info about the EBC disks, there's are few people on here using them now

Ta mate, I know they'r ebc but the guy said many people have purchased them to use with std brembo pads. He said they should work fine.

If anyone on here have used ebc vented grooves with std pads then please get in touch.

Jay

if there's "spring" left in the spring and the guide pins locate firmly when reinstalled, then there should be no need to replace them.
