Cutting out/loss of power

After all the issues i had with my cupra not starting unless i give it revs, cutting out, loss of power, ive finally sorted it. I had replaced all the usual bits and bobs (plugs, leads, maf etc) it turned out it was the throttle body.
Fitted the replacement throttle body yesterday and the car is running brilliant. Made me remember why i bought it to begin with. Its like a completely different car (compared to when it had issues). Right back up to speed :D

Yeh i can't explain how good it felt when i took her for a drive last night and today.
I suppose another example of the love hate relationship with the mk2's lol.

how much did it cost you (if you don't mind me asking?). I get similar probs with mine & have tried cleaning the throttle body but only sorts it temporarily

the old one probably just needed a good clean out ;)

I took the old one off afew weeks back and gave it a thorough cleaning but still had the same problems. Im told it was the idle stabilization valve (think thats the name), that was playing up and that its built into the TB.

I paid £40 from the scappies :D well chuffed. Got it off a mk3 golf AGG engine block.

There's no F in Quality..
yeah, the idle on the AGG is controlled by a stepper motor which is part of the throttle body. it works by opening the butterfly valve slightly to allow the engine to idle.

usually the butterfly valve becomes gunked up which stops the stepper motor from opening it. a good clean usuaully cures it ;)

however, sometimes if it has been left for a long time, the stepper motor can burn out, which sounds like whats happened in your case !!!!

good to hear you've sorted it though, and for not that bad a price ;)

Care for taking a few pics of which bits to take off to remove the throttle body unit?

Or is it a haynes manual job, and follow your nose type affair?

Thanks

Pretty easy to remove mate. Remove the air pipe from the throttle body housing.
Undo the accelerator cable from the TB.
Unscrew the 4 bolts, one on each corner of the TB. (they have an allen key head size 5 iirc).
Unplug the wire connected to the TB.
Basically thats it. I had to give mine a little tap to persuade the seal to release and its off. Then you just remove the 2 water pipes (abit tricky)

Fitting is the reverse although word of advice. Fit the water pipes onto the TB first before you fix the TB back. Also put abit of sealant (i used gasket seal) around the edge of the TB.

All done.

we're you getting problems at around 2500 rpm. I have issues with mine where it feels like the engine is cutting out in a missfiring sense however it feels similar to when your running out of fuel, like coffing, spluttering type effect.

Yes mate. It was around 2500 revs that id loose power. I thought i was fueling problem as well but the fuel pump was ok.
Just cant explain what a difference the TB has made. Brilliant.
Im not sure but i think the 16v has the idle stabilisation valve (or whatever its called) separate from the TB so you may be able to just clean it!!
