Hey guys and girls! not ure if i am putting this in the correct section, i browsed around and this is the only placee it looked like it would fit in.

ENGINE CLEANING!

what is the best way to clean my LCR engine? i want to doit myself as i always want to try to do everything myself and i trust my own work... i think

I had a focus before the leon and just usse to put 2 plastic bags over the electrics and hose the beast down, degrease it, let it settle for 5-10 mins then hose the beast back down.

As the LCR engine is way different to the focus is there anything i need to do/be carefull off?

Thanks

You might find it useful to post this in the leon section. Its pretty much a similar job to the focus but, its finding out which bits to cover.

I did mine the hard way - elbow grease and some engine degreasant. Sometimes thats a safer option.

I was thinking of doing the same, but i always miss a spot or few when i do it that way! how long did it take you roughly?

About 2 hours, I missed a few bits but, it looks much better for a good initial clean. Its not amazing clean but, I found it quite therapeutic and am more than happy to keep in maintained by having a quick monthly clean. I used autoglym metal polish and a wire brush for the manifold cover which is what took the most time. Its still looking good now almost 3 months on.

Yea, just do as you did before & your gona be fine.
Best stuff I've found is the AUTOGLYM Engine & Machine cleaner for degreasing/cleaning.

Totally agree, I used this on my car just emptied it out into a small bowl and used a cloth to wipe the bay out with. Couldnt have been easier really.

did you wash it all off with a hose afterards? how much is the autoglym for? isit a halfrauds jobby?

The autoglym engine cleaner is about £7 and comes in a quirty bottle. You can just spray it on and wipe it off with a damp cloth or cover electrics etc and hose down. The metal polish is £6 a tube and a little goes a long way. Both available from Halfrauds.

Right! got my autogym and shall be using it tomoz! thanks for reccomending it!

is there any specific areas which i would need to cover up which would be different from other cars? that could effect the engine or performance in anyway?

i did the total opposite and whent ball out on my cupra i warmed the engine to about quater on the gague just touch warm engine then i got a squarty bottle and sprayd eavry thing in the bay left for litraly 10 seconds then got myself a steam cleaner and jet washed at pressure the whole thing it looks lovley now but be carefull still i couldnt drive mine for about 30 mins after i did bag up the air intakes tho but it started fine but to drive it wass just so awfall no power coughing and spluttering but like i said 30 mins later going good as she always does, and shes all clean in there now, but i have used that auto glym stuff before and it ios the bolloks lol i done my old ford focus (yes i no i was ashamed but was a ok car) it come up lovley like new and as matey said abouve the auto glym plasics care tuff is good lasts for ages and effortless good on tyres too! jim
