Honest TDI FR Fuel Consumption

Mines done 13K and averages 42mpg and its driven quite sprightly, mainly on fast A&B roads, on the motorway its varies between 38 & 44mpg dont know why as i always set cruise to 83mph (though speedo on mine is 5-6mph over optimistic according to my tomtom and gps camera detector at this speed). The most i have seen is 48mpg on a long steady run on A roads. Had a golf pd150 in the past and that easily managed 50mpg plus with similar driving so i was slightly dissapointed with the FR's consumption it seems a step backwards. The car on a whole though is fantastic apart from the cheap door cards, unfortunately mines up for sale as i'm buying a new house and ned some cash....

I got 456.5 miles from full to light pinging on, on the 1st tank of Shell V-power, it said 40miles to go until empty too.

Currently running a tank of sainsbury std derv to see how it compairs to the fancy gear. Next tank will be the same but with a few shots of millers sport to see how that fairs.

Managed to get an average of 48mpg on the way in this morning, saying that, my average speed was similar too :headhurt:

The best way of looking at the average is the reading on setting # 2, IMO.

I'll already have done 1000 miles in 10 days by tonights drive home

After 2000 miles ive averaged 40.5 mpg, but to wear the engine i did drive it hard when warm. However, now i seem to be getting much better figures. For example, driving at 65mph to work this morning i got 46 mpg, and last friday on the way home from work i got 52mpg doing 60mph on a 21 mile motorway trip!! But give & take, i'd say 40-43 mpg average now (And i give it some welly)

45mpg over a 560 mile tank.

Best I've managed on trip (1) which is 60miles is 48mpg.

Averaging 41 overall.

Not as good as my MK1 but still under 10k.

I did a trip from Colchester to Manchster and back - approx 470 miles and averaged 47 mpg, which I was quite impressed with as mine only had 400 miles on it at the start of the trip.
Probably averaging 80ish with occaisional bursts of speed ;)

How large is the fuel tank? 55 litres? £55

Is that 560m max range using all 55l?

How does it compare, standard vs revo'd? You lost any economy?

55L yes. I'm not reading the range read out that's actually what I got.

I went from a Mk1 Revo to a Mk2. When I had the Mk1 Revo'd it made no difference at all to the MPG.

I started off keeping accurate paper records but found the fuel computer was only 0.5mpg out for the first 3k miles so gave up on that.

I've noticed that the trip is very accurate too. Maybe as I can't vent this tank.

Actual Indicated

43.43 43.5
45.23 44
39.11 37.9
45.01 44.4
36.25 36.2
41.18 41.4
41.15 41.6
46.67 44.8
42.13 42.6
43.05 43

Some very technical replies on this thread, but put simply (from my recent drives)

Booting it about (like a maniac) = 36mpg
Steady 200 mile round trip = 47.8mpg

Im getting very concerned when i first got the car i managed quite regulary to get 41 - 43 mpg ie below 1000 miles this was semi granny mode now im approaching 3000 with the same driving im getting around 35 mpg and in granny mode 37mpg max

Baring in mind the figure was took on the motorway at 70mph over a 30mile trip
Why is my mpg reducing over time i though it was ment to go up
Has the ECU leant i like to give it some welly now and them and perposely keeping the rev higher to imporve throttle response or have i got problems
