ive spent the last hour or so doing a search through the forum for info on the dreaded windows.. ive not really found an answer.. lol

it would appear the window regulator/motor is the source of most of the problems with windows on the mk3..

my situation is that my drivers window is goosed... you press the button to go up, it doesn;t do anything but if yuo press the button down it goes up.. also, as it was late when i got these problems, the switch was illuminated red as normal.. but when i killed the ignition and took keys out of the car, the light stayed on.. normally you get maybe 30seconds or sumet to operate the windows after the car is turned off which i did, but even after 5mins it was still illuminated and when i got in the ca this morning.. still illuminated..

to me, it would appear that the switch is gone.. the window doesn't grind or anything but does continually try to put the window up further than it is already...

would i need to replace the regulator/motor or would it just be the switch..

Cheers
sorry if i've missed it in the search..

Could be the switch, i'd try that first. Some water may have got in it, part number is 6XO 959 855b - Electric window switch (Black, one touch, drivers side)

ive had loads of bother with ym windows, its generally to do with water getting into the switch. MY passenger window would go up and down like crazy for no reason. I just stuck some WD40 into both drivers side window switches andfiddled with buttons for a few minutes to work it in then left it for a while. my windows work fine now.

I had a similar problem with my doors always locking while i was driving. It was water in the lock/unlock button on the drivers door. again some wd40 sorted it out :D

will give that a try actually..

last night was drivin along the road, window goin up and down like a yoyo..

got home, pressed the switch to go up a few times till it worked, window goes up, took the keys out of the ignition, got out of the car, locked it then the window went down again... was mortified!! thought i was gonna have to sleep in the car to make sure no-one took anything from it.. lol.

the old clipper lighter solved the problem tho! jammed it under the switch so the window stayed up until the switches disabled.. Cooshty!

will try the WD40 tonight see if it helps before i trawl the scrappies for an Ibiza.. lol
