i find that mileage is a much bigger factor on price than yr/plate with lcrs and ctrs and s3s, cars of that type etc.
being as they are very much the same from year to year (210/225 being the major difference with the lcr of course) i would have thought most people would take a 03 plate with 30k over a 55 plate with 100k. i certainly would anyway, its mileage that hurts a car, not age and a car with low mileage and fssh is going to feel very new.

i completely agree with this for cars up to a certain age. for instance, if the car is 9 or 10 years old with 30k on the clock parts are going to be worn by age that wont have been replaced during servicing schedules like they will in a 3 yr old with 100k miles. i.e. cambelt.

i suppose every car should be taken on its merits, if servicing has been regular and the car is well looked after then there is no reason not to go for it...assuming you dont overpay for it ;)

I see what you are saying, but it does depend on how the car has been driven - 100k miles with 90% motorway for eg would be fine, 30k miles all short hard blast trips not letting oil warm up and turbo cool down etc would be bad. I actually always look at the condition of a car and not just the mileage - the older the car gets the more money it is worth in good nick and not so the mileage (if we are talking 8 years plus that is).

Everyone has their view. I bought a high mileage 55 plate LCR and it had done loads of motorway miles, and was in good nick so I was happy to go for it. If it had done few miles but in poor condition I would not have touched it.

I wouldn't touch a 140k mileage car. I don't care how many miles the engine can do "theoretically" at the end of the day you don't know how it's been driven and maintained and so it's too much of a gamble. Anyway, cars aren't just engines. Even if the engine is fine after 140k lots of other parts will be shagged (or nearly shagged).
