Funny issue when I first start the engine...

Basically when I first start the engine the rev's go straight upto 2,000 rpm, then its drops straight down to about 1,100 rpm and sits there for about 3-4 minutes when idle and then after that drops down to the usual 900 rpm after that.

Also sometimes when I pull up to some lights or stop in traffic the rev's go up and down from 900rpm to 1600rpm. But not all time?

This all happens after you have just started the engine? It sounds like your secondary vacuum pipe. DO you have an induction kit?

Happens on mine but not at 2k, when I start the engine it idles at about1.1, 1.2k revs and after about 5 mins drops to about 900

I havent installed my induction kit yet, but I did change the standard filter to a green one about a month ago.

The weird one is when im sitting in traffic and the revs go up and down for a few seconds then it goes back down to normal if I rev it up to 2k. This only happens once or twice a drive.

Do you have Vagcom? Would probably be worth hooking vagcom up and seeing if any faults come up? Is the car driving any different to normal? any loss in performance?

When your sat in traffic and the revs start going funny, is that soon after turning on the ignition?

I dont have a vagcom, cant really afford to shell out the cash for the software.

The up and down thing can happen at any time, but doesnt happen as soon as I turn it on. It sits at 1100 when I first turn it on, then I drive for 5+ minutes and when i idle it sometimes goes up and down.

Performance is fine.

Mine is the same when i switch it on after it's been off for a while. Straight up to 1200 revs then drops to 900. I thought it was a choke or something.

mine does this some mornings too.. I leave it to warm up till the revs drop but then sometimes at the first few roundabouts the revs go up again.. Let me know if you work out what causes it :)
