Just got new rubber Vredestein ultrac 225 45 zr17 94w. very impressed,, The place that fitted the tyres put 33 psi all round in them. Handeling seemed a bit soft, not as sharp as i was expecting. I got looking and found on the vredestein website using the tyre selector tool, the recomended tyre pressure for the tyre I just bought was 45 front and 48 back. I never came across tyre pressures that high in a car. I put 40 all round (i didnt like to put any more in seemed very high) the handeling is now razor sharp, big difference. Is it dangerous having tyre pressures that high? ? What is everyone else running? I know seat recomend something like 32-33 its on the filler cap. Im presuming that is only applicable to the factory tyres...

tyre pressure is not really relevant to tyre manufacturer as far as i know, its more about the weight of the car. if you run higher pressures your fuel economy will probably be a bit better as there is less road contact/friction but it also means you have less grip!

40psi is pretty damn high on a leon.

Running mega high pressures means you'll probably find the middle of your tyres wearing a lot quicker than the outsides.

From having 2 MK4 Golf's, and this Leon.... i would always stick to thereabout the manufacturers default. I wouldnt go no lower than 31, and no higher than 35 in all honesty. False economy in the long run, your tyres will just need replacing sooner.

i have had the wear in the middle problem before run mine at 30psi to hopefully prolong the life of the tyre.
my first tyres on the front wore out after 13000 miles gone in the middle. got a digital tyre pressure gauge to be on the safe side too.was putting 33psi and they went in the middle was putting the air in at a garage and not checking the pressures afterwards.

Tyre pressure is nothing to do with the tyre manufacturer
It's down to the car weight only!!
Not adviseable to deviate from the Seat recommended pressures
Buy your self a digital tyre pressure gauge, perhaps the place you
inflate your tyres at doesn't have a very accurate gauge.
Even if these things get dropped once it can effect the reading
big time. This pressure your running is only recommended for
a fully laiden car with 5 persons and luggage

Over 40 psi in a tyre seems very high! As already mentioned, it's the overall weight of your car that effects tyre pressure, not manufacturer.
Over inflated tyres wear a lot quicker. I had a mk.1 Focus with a similar tyre size to yours and stuck to about 32-34.

I don’t really know. My car had p-zero’s when I got it, they wore out quickly and more in the middle, I think its meant to be common with these tyres (I regularly check my tyre pressures 33psi all round). I’m now using GSD3’s and I’ve been very impressed with them so far! Tremendous grip! :D

Would it not be correct to say the tyre side wall strength would also have a bearing on the pressure? I have emailed vredestein and asked them, i will post any reply.

Not too sure
But by the sounds of it you will tell us;)
99% sure it has nothing to do with tyres as I have never been told when fitting new tyres...by the way you need to run??? tyre pressure

just looking at the vredeistein web site again and the pressures they recomend for a3's and golfs are similar 40-48psi. Also noticed the pressures they recomend vary between tyre sizes on the same car????

I've gone with 32psi (ish) myself as that's what the MFR says to do and they're likely to know more than tyre companies.

40psi sounds rather high too...

45psi all round.

That's what mine were when I came to pump them up due to having a lot of luggage for Leeds Fest so didn't need to do it in the end.

Put them down to recommended by filler cap after trip.

Got new tyres on the front, place put them all back up to 45ish.

I put them back down.

Not sure what to have them at now to be honest!

the reply from vredestein,,

This is the answer from our Tyre Information Centre to your question:

The tyre pressure advice from Vredestein is always a litlle higher than set out by the car manufacturer. The reason behind this is we focus more on handling and safety characteristics than on comfort. Also the life span of the tyres will be longer and the fuel consumption and impact on the environment will be less.
Vredestein calculates the tyrepressure using the tyrepressure from the car manufacturer for full load and high speed.

Todays radial tyres will not have excess tyre wear in the centre of the tyre when using a higher tyre pressure.

TIP:
Our experience tells us that in general, people often drive with too low tyrepressures and don't check their tyres enough. In general car manufacturers advice lower tyre pressures than (we as a) tyre manufacturer do. Beware that too low tyre pressures cause much lower ability for a tyre to carry loads, it gives tyres a much shorter livespan and higher fuel consumption. Also comfort (handling, vibrations, noice) will deminish due to uneven wear. Our advice is to check your tyre pressure regularly, especially before long trips. The tyrepressure must be measured with cold tyres, this means less than 1 mile / 2 kilometer drive or waiting for the tyres to cool-down 1 hour or more after driving. Do never lower the tyrepressure of warm tyres, this could mean the pressure will drop below the minimum. The optimum pressure depends on load capacity, speed capacity of the car, safety and personal preferences like comfort and handling.
In order to get the greatest possible return on your tyres, it is recommended to change the position of your tyres about every 7.500 to 10.000 kilometres from front to rear and vice versa. Our advice is to rotate only between the front and the rear. The first rotation is therefore most important. When tyres are rotated, the inflation pressures must be adjusted for the tyres' new positions!

Old and aged tyres must be checked by a tyre specialist to ascertain their suitability for further use. In any case tyres should be checked if they are fitted to vehicles that are older than 6 years. Tyres should be replaced after 6 to 8 years.

We hope this answers your question. In case you have more questions, please don't hesitate to mail us, we are always prepared to answer them.

Kind regards,
