I think the splined shafts are held in by circlips mate.

Without a Haynes manual, I think you are mad :headhurt:

You wouldn't see them until the shaft was out, as far as I know they are what keeps the shaft in place.

done it now, used a hammer and a yanked the bitch off. . .no cir clip found tho is it in the grease?

it's pos they don't have any and is just a press fit.

It's 16 years since I last helped work on replacing a drive shaft ;)

sorry mate havent had time to take any pics, ill take sum of the clutch when its out. we've been at it since 1.30 till about 7 yesterday and since about 9 till now and guess wot? the old clutch isnt out yet and the bleedin engine has just fell out of its mount!
AND ITS STUPIDLY HARD!

the clutch was pretty bad i was driving using a lot more revs to go at lower speeds and accelerating was rediculous.
the clutch i bought was £95, most of u guys have 1.8T, clutches for them start about £140 i think.

my adivce is PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT lol

this is where things nearly went totally t*ts up as the engine slipped out of its mount and was just stayin in place by the pipes and a jack.

if anyone is thinking of doing this, you need LOADS of tools, at least 2 people, and loads of time!
if i knew what i know, id have paid someone to do it.
taking the gearbox out took about 3 hours cos it kept catching and getting stuck, once it was out it was filthy so it needed cleaning out, then once the clutch was taken off it was clear to see how knackered it was.
and puttin the gearbox back in is an even bigger pain than taking it out!!
