27000 miles from my Michelins, what now?

The Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres on my Ibiza FR TDi have finally expired after 27000 miles. I know people slate them but I don't think they are too bad, although they are not brilliant in the wet. The wear rate is amazing though.

I have now got to decide what to replace them with. I've looked at some of the tyre threads on here but they always end up with one person raving about a tyre and the next completely slating them. i could get Michelin again but they are very expensive and I'm not sure I want to keep the car for another 27000 miles, so they are probably not worth the extra money.

As far as I can tell the favourites seem to be: Goodyear F1, Toyo T1-R, Uniroyal Rainsport and Pirelli P Zero Nero. There's probably some others I've forgotten. I will probably get in touch with my local independent tyre fitter, as I've got an account with them and can get credit and the VAT back, and see what they suggest.

It's your turn now to slag off my list and tell me about all the great ones I've missed.

I have just eeked 21k out of a set of front tyres (with the rears still going strong) and I have just ordered two Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3s to replace the standard Dunlops after many recommendations - will let you know how I get on!!

Goodyear Eagles seem to be the way most are going im sure.

Another one i would look at are Yokohama Parada Spec 2. Cracking in both wet and dry. My mates had them on his car for ages aswell so wear must be good.

27k, good man! ive managed just shy of 30k from my michelin pilot exaltos, i know people slate them to but i think they are superb, had two complete sets now, very happy.

I could probably get a couple of thousand more out of mine but I was coming down a hill in the rain yesterday and a girl decided to do a three point turn in front of me without looking. After lots of ABS activity I managed to stop just before hitting her but I think new tyres might be a good idea.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will see if I can get a price for the Exaltos.

Edit. I've just had a look at mytyres and, apart from being the most expensive tyres there, they do very well in the Tyre Test. Definitely worth considering.

I have toyo t1-r ' s all round good tyre but wear very quickly

Eagle F1 GSD-3 tyres are very grippy in the wet and dry - they also look good! Had them on my Beezer FR, and highly recommend them, even if they do wear down slightly faster then the Bridgestone Turanza tyres it come with.

The cupra I have now has the P-Zero Nero's on it - they are great in the dry, but did not fill me with confidence in the wet, but each to their own!

bridgestone Turanza are not that great at all... cant keep the power down (dry or wet) even in my pd100 and not that good in the wet compared to my old toyo's T1-R's those was brill... p6's was also quite good but then they are pirreli's...

Just had 4 new rainsports fitted after having Michelin's. Rainsports all the way certainly with this weather

I'm an old fart so I'm quite kind to my tyres. The appeal of shelling out for new rubber every six months wore off years ago.

yeah fair point, i get all my tyres from either black circles or etyres.

These guys are very cheap! Good for most of the popular brands, cheapest i have found anywhere on the net - and believe me, I spent a long time looking!

iv had pirelli zero nero's, rainsports and now i have toyo t1-r. for best comfort the zero nero's win and rainsports last as they were quite harsh. For grip in wet and dry the rainsports were good but id say the toyos are probably the best all rounder. nice and sticky and quite a comfy ride. the pirellis wore a lot quicker than the rainsports too.
