good brake setup?

Basically the brakes on my 1.8 16v are pretty poo,I think part of the reason is something to do with my abs sensor (read that its best to give it a clean) anyways just wondering what a good brake setup is?

I know some people run the brembo's of the cupra r models but this seems way to expensive for me.What other brake upgrades could I be looking at that are fairly simple to fit and cheapish?Willing to spend up to £200.

g60 brakes an option?The skoda octavia vrs brakes seem quite good but I'm guessing there also quite expensive and probs won't fit.

For that sort of cash (as far as I know) the G60/Cupra GTI 16V setup will be your best bet, they are really very good, your also just out of luck I just sold a set of G60 Calipers, Zimmerman 280mm disc's & Ferodo Pads for £180!!

you happen to know what size discs come as standard on the 1.8 gti?I've got the 16 inch cupra rims so hoping to get something to fill those babies lol.

Same colour choice, plans for the engine, same wheel's now the same brakes either a double or your my alter ego posting!

If I still had my old one we'd even be 3 numbers out on the Reg no!!!!

Porker brakes can be had for anywhere between £250-£1000 depending on which one's you want!

If you're supercharging I thoroughly recommend the book 'Supercharged: Design, Testing and Installation of Supercharger Systems' by Corky Bell. Can be had for £15 from Amazon. It's an excellent read and it helps to do your research with stuff like this.

Anyway, regarding the brakes, I was outbid last second on some 993 Carrera calipers. I think it'll work out cheaper to do it in stages- discs, pads, etc, etc... Especially as I'm in no rush yet.

not looking to supercharge it till next year when I've got a year's NCD (£600 to insure as opposed to £1400 now), the porker brakes & sorted suspension!
but then again if I get the new job I'm in a second interveiw for Friday things will move along much quicker!!

Sorry for the thread hijack, Fresh Creps! How much are you wanting to spend? Standard calipers with standard 280mm Brembo discs with Ferodo DS2500 pads should be plenty for you. The pads are meant to be excellent.

I'm going for the Porker 4 pots as much for looks as stopping power!

i think i started a bit of a trend with the old supercharging lol

hopefully my student loan will be with me next week, and then i can start ordering bits, need to get new pads, discs and my gear linkages done first, that wont be expensive

are 4 pots hard to install, might look at upgrading my brakes (i'm gna need it)

Oo cheers Roelich,sounds like quite an affordable set up,might possibly have the pads already in my garage although there from a bmw 1 series so not sure if they'd fit.

Any ideas on the best places to get to get brembo discs and the pads from?

I would recommend 280mm brake set up. ED38 sees sets up all the time.
