Big Brakes.

Hi all,

I finally purchased the new Big Brakes for my Leon.
After much help from some of you guys, and my direct contact with a number of different Brake manufacturers, I went for the ECS Stage 5 Big Brake Kit.

For those that don't know about this kit:

6-Pot Porsche Lightweight Calipers, (from a Porsche Cayenne)
5 colours available.
352 x 32mm Lightweight 2 piece Ventilated Disc's.
Available Slotted or Drilled and Slotted.
Hawk Brake Pads, Stainless Steel Brake Lines and neccessary mounting hardware.


I went to Awesome to get them fitted and the Staff and Facilities there were fantastic.
Easily my number 1 Garage experience to date.
They only took a few hours to fit, and required 12mm Spacers to fit the 18" Seat Alloy.

Awesome only had 20mm Spacers on the day I got them fitted, but have since sent me the required 12mm's.

I am now running about with 12mm Spacers on the Front and the 20mm on the Rear. The Handling and looks have improved with no rubbing.

The cost inc Fitting and VAT was £1721.38.

They look fantastic and the Braking performance is stunning.

I have had them now for just over 3 weeks, they are well bedded in and I love them.

I can not praise the Brake Kit or the Staff at Awesome enough

Sound sweet man, look awsome also. But aren't the Cupra brakes pretty immense standard? 1.7k seems alot of money for brakes, unless you're racing it?

Ive got the Ap Racing 6 pots on mine and they are fantastic, but the pads are stupidly expensive! Do you know how much they are for those?

Do you do trackdays CANIS? You'll really notice the difference there :)

I am having problems adding the pics from my computer onto the Forum.

I'm a better Driver than I am at IT Stuff. Dooh.

I haven't taken my FR on a Track yet, but I hope to soon.

Yes 1.7K is a lot of cash, but my Plastic Friend paid for them Lol.

Remeber, it ain't Debt if you can meet the monthly payments. :happy:

Big Brakes are worth the money, Improves Safety, Insurance friendly and can dramatically improve A - B and Lap times. :funk:

When Jaguar first introduced Disc Brakes at Le Mans away back years ago, they humped everyone.

If I can work out how to get the pics that I have onto the Forum, I will add.

Once you've had better brakes you won't want standard ones ... ever - it's nice to have lots in reserve :)

I know what you mean about the look of the car with spacers on, 10mm front and 16mm rear and it makes it look so much better on the road and in profile.

Really need to get some pics up :)

good on ya mate! hope they dont eat pads up ! i think the cupra brakes are fine as standard ! nearly went through the windscreen when i first test drove one

i saw this car having them fitted and they are very nice but i was shocked when i found out it was a deisel.

The thing that put me off the ECS kit was the ongoing running costs, discs and pads basically.

Running costs shouldn`t be any higher then any other setup. Bigger the brakes should mean less wear if used the same as smaller brakes since you shouldn`t get brake fade and you don`t need to brake so hard to slow down. Thats how i think about it but i could ( and probably am ) wrong. Just think how great those brakes would look on your car Pat....;)

Mmmmhmmm - this is true however just think of the size of the hole in my bank account to do it ..... the porker 4 pots do a much better job than the OEM calipers, i'm also in love with the sound grooved discs make when they're clamped by the calipers.

My discs still only cost < £100 and pads are only just over £100. I don't think ECS replacement bits are anything like that reasonable.
