Retarded question about LCR keyfob

Hi peeps,

The keyfob for my LCR randomly stopped working yesterday, was working fine all day, but when i got home in the evening i tried to lock the car and nothing happened. The light wasn't flashing on the keyfob so i assumed the battery was flat.

Had to lock the car with the key then unlock with the key this morning..

I had a look at the keyfob last night to see how to change the battery and also read the leon manual but i cant seem to figure out how to do it? I don't want to knacker up my keyfob by trying to find a way in, can someone tell me how you do it?

I spotted what looks like a 'flap' you can open under the key to expose the batteries, but i couldn't get it open - is this right?

Also, will i have any problems replacing the batteries, or will the keyfob continue working as usual once the batteries are replaced?

Sorry for the gay questions, couldn't find an answer to this by searching..

Thanks

Thanks for that, looks simple enough.

It mentions you may need a new badge though, guessing this is rubbish? Is it exactly the same process for the leon cupra r key?

How is the badge held on? Do you need some sort of glue to re-stick the badge on?

Thanks!

Surrey darling...
I'm no expert but looking at the pics you only need to remove the badge if you need to get to the transponder.. battery is located in the other half of the key :D

Correct :), sorry hope he wouldn't go that far. Just showing the fob split open in bits for future reference

Ahh brill, was getting worried then thinking i was going to destroy it!

As for my other question, once the battery is replaced the keyfob will continue working as normal, right? Doesn't need re-coding or anything? I'm assuming not..

Searched for keyfobs and ended up reading about allsorts of nightmares people have had with them randomly dying... :-\

Err ok..

Randomly this evening my keyfob has started working again! Red light is really bright, doesn't look dim as if the battery is dying, and is now locking/unlocking fine..

Weird??! Anyone else encountered this?

If you can't remember the last time the battery was swapped I'd be inclined to swap it anyway. Doesn't hurt to have a fresh one in. You can get them cheap enough on ebay. Did you knock or drop the remote by any chance?, the battery could have been slightly off the contacts.

IIRC (and you'll probably clarify this with a search :D ) the remote keyfob and the ECU can have a bit of a falling out (technical term) basically they jam in some way and fail to recognise each other. The only way in is revert to the key for access and starting, this problem seems to sort itself out after you have used the key and once the keyfob and car are back in sync. Had my LCR nearly 3 years and I think this happened once or twice.

I've only owned the car around a month now so i have no idea if the battery has ever been changed before.

Must've been the fob and the ECU 'falling out' as since i used the key for a day, it's been fine since then.

Very strange! but thanks for the help!
