i have recently passed my test and for my 1st car i bought 1995 pre facelift mk2 1.0 litre ibiza (weve all got to start somewhere  ) lol anyway iv fell in love with my mk2 ibiza and have decided to make it my little project and turn it into a gti but was wondering if it is possible to transplant the engine for a 2.0 ltre 16v lump? how difficult is this going to be in means of engine mounts etc? i know brakes, suspension etc are going to have to be modified but is it possible?

As i am not going to b able to do an engine transplant yet i am going to sort out the exterior and interior styling 1st so does anybody know where i can purchase the cupra half leather red and black seats, door skins, centre console pocket, gear and handbrake surround, leather gear and handbrake gaiters, cupra sport multispoke alloys, pre facelift grille, lower grille with foglights, rear spoiler..list could go on lol i know its alot to ask but this car is in serious need of modding!!! Any help wil be appreciated..il be posting pics of whats been done so far!

tbh i would just save up and get a gti, ok do the odd thing here and there along the way but i know from experience it aint worth it i had a mk2 1.4 before and all the money i spent on it like a remote start alarm and crap like that i coulda spent modding my gti. but if u got ur heart set on it then i wish u all the best ...start by looking in the for sale section of this site and then maybe post in the wanted section for the other bits, then id go for ebay if i was u ..and if ur after OEM parts then GSF are a good place and minor little bits that you cant get from then then ud have to go dealer mate. good luck and keep us posted.

Do a search mate. It's been covered quite a few times.

But, I'm in a good mood so... Would you be doing the transplant yourself? If not, it really won't be financially viable. You can pick up Mk2 GTi 2.0 16v's for around the 1k mark now.

However, if you are doing it yourself then you'll need to uprate the suspension, brakes, as well as the engine. I'd also consider the 1.8 20vT engine from the Mk3 Cupra (among others) if you are indeed doing the conversion yourself.

But yeah, it is possible.

Regarding the other mods you mention, keep your eye out on the for sale section on this forum. Some things, such as the wheels, pop up for sale suprisingly frequently. There is the black and red half leather interior from a Mk3 Ibiza Cupra for sale in the back of this months Golf+ magazine as well.

thanks for the feedback and answers on picking up parts etc..i was thinking of just doing little mods and then buy a complete car but it would take all the fun out of it as im going to be doing most of the mods and eventually the transplant myself!

if i was to do the transplant are there any modifications to the engine mounts needed etc?

im just uploading piks of the car now so tell me wat you think!

heres my mk2 prefacelift seat ibiza 1.0 litre as i bought it for £325 lol

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...1/DSC00349.jpg

im planning on modding this and eventually transplanting the engine for a 2.0 litre 16v gti

so far i have started the ice by installing 4 inch vibe slicks up front, a 12 inch vibe blackair sub and 6x9 infinity reference in the rear

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...1/DSC00354.jpg

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...1/DSC00348.jpg

the sub and 6x9s are not connected at the moment due to lack of amp but they will be soon along with another pair of vibe 4inch slicks under the rear speaker grilles which wil be powered off the headunit along with the front pair!

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...1/DSC00255.jpg

here are the 1st set of alloys i am planning on fitting as soon as theyre are finished being refurbed..can you guess what they are off? lol

then im planning on changing the interior by fitting the half leather black and red cupra sport seats, centre pocket console etc with leather handbrake n gearlever gaiters, cupra sport door skins along with another pair of speakers which will be powered by the amp, clocks from prefacelift gti (the red and black ones to match seats), new steering wheel (not sure which yet)!

as for the exterior its going to be kept pretty much standard as i want it to be a "sleeper" once the engine is finally transplated! so im going for some light mods such as black smoked tint all round (not going too dark..dont want the pigs pulling me over and ripping them off), lowered around 40-60mm, eitha fit facelifted grille or debadge exsisting, gti lower grille with fog lights, gti rear spoiler, color coded mirrors and inset centre part of bumpers, euro style aluminium pressed plates with gb band, smoked side repeaters, cupra sport multispoke alloys refurbed in black or charcoal grey or euro style deep dish pepper pots (like original wheels but around 15/16 inch by 6.5/7) and then a full body touch up and respray before finally transplanting the engine for the 2.0litre 16v gti along with brakes, suspension (probably coilovers so i can get the right stance when lowered), de-cat pipe with 20vt backbox, strut braces etc etc

wish me luck
il keep you all posted with the progress!

Welcome to the site dude :)

As you are probably on a small budget with having your pants pulled down by insurance and not being able to spend much on mods then I have a few tips.

Firstly good work on the installation of the speakers into the dash! Are you putting the grills back on?

With your 6x9's I would advise making them stealth like, by covering them over with a piece of material. Obviously not carpet because that quieten them down. Just that the first thing a thief will do is see your speakers, smash your windows and rip them out. So I would look at also making a false floor in the boot and securing your sub box to it. It will also stop your stuff sliding around in the back and will give you a good place to mount your amp :)

Good luck with the conversion and all that but its probably best to get used to driving before putting a big lump in. Not trying to tell you how to do something but from experience of others it usually ends in tears. Plus as the others have said your better off just buying a gti, people have picked them up for as little as £500 off ebay. And its gonna cost a lot more to turn a 1.0l into one!

But if your heart is really set on the gti then I'd only really do mods that you can transfer over to it like, a badgeless grill, smoked side repeaters, facelift or aftermarket bumpers, bucket seats etc. Either keep what you remove so that you can switch it back in when you sell it or bin them and run the car into the ground because it hasn't cost you a fortune to buy at all :)

Lastly, not a fan of the mini lites I am afraid. Lots of tire black needed!

thanks for the welcoming and the advice lol

anyway you guessed correct...the insurance is a ****** considering its only a 1.0 litre so my budget isnt massive at the moment but ive been saving and ive got enough money to buy a few things each week/month! also i can source some parts for free through my dads links which will help alot! plus im not doing the transplant yet which gives me more time to save for the parts i do have to buy for the big swap over!

but for now im concentrating on getting the interior, ice setup and a few body mods sorted (as i said above though...apart from tints, debadged grill, spoiler alloys and the car being lowered the exterior is staying pretty much standard as i want it to be a "sleeper") then il start collecting the mechanical parts starting with new lowering springs and dampers, brakes etc then once ive sourced the new running gear il probably buy a cheap run around to use while the ibizas off the road!

when all the hard works done underneath (fingers crossed) the cars having a full rub down, all dents filled/pulled and a respray which my dad and i will do (properly lol) so wont cost anything! plus a bit of color coding on the mirrors and bumpers!

iv got my heart fully set on this project so hope all goes well and should be alot more fun than just buying a complete car!

by the way the grills have been put on over the front speakers...i just took them off to take piks and the wheels are being shotblasted and powder coated and will have new tires on before i fit them but im not planning on keeping them forever..i got them for free and they are similar dimensions to the pepperpots so they wont change acceleration or anything whilst the 1litre is still in the car however theyll make the car handle slightly better because the sidewall of the tire will be stiffer as its an inch smaller and theyre half an inch wider! in the near future im planning on eitha refurbing some cuprasport alloys in black or charcoal grey or fitting some new eurostyle bigger deep dish pepperpots to keep the car looking as standard as possible!

thanks for listening and ill keep you posted with whats going on!
