Which clutch part is this?

What part of the clutch is in the pictures? I thought I ordered a friction disk, but it doesn't have any paddles?

That is a friction disc. It is a paddle cerametallic disc. Most people buy an organic disc as they are a lot easier to drive with. Top left of this picture.

I brought it from Allards.. it's supposed to be an uprated one. I thought I was buying a good one. Bit confused now, why would Allards send me a rubbish one?

If you want a clutch with a cerametallic disc then yes. If i was you though give Allards a ring and tell them you ordered an organic friction disc not a cerametallic disc and get it swop over. A clutch with a cerametallic disc tend to bit quite sharply and are not very easy to drive in town traffic. Did you ask for a cerametallic disc ?

I just asked for a uprated clutch as it was slipping after a remap. i didn'tr realise they sold both types. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

There might have been a misunderstanding when you ordered as in your first post you are asking about paddles on the disc. A cerametallic disc is also known as a paddle disc which is what you have got.

I never mentioned paddles on the phone when I ordered.. I just assumed the springs in the middle were paddles.
Either way, I was expecting the one shown on their site.

paddle types as devon says are very on or off a good 80/90% and can take some getting used to

i could just live with a 6 pad but 5 i have never tried

*edit* get your flywheel looked at or skimmed clean if you have had slipping in the past

I'm having trouble contacting Allards, So I've emailed them.

Finding it very difficult to get the friction disk fitted, everywhere I go there want me to buy a flywheel and presure plate as well. Spoke to Allards yesterday and they said I don't need them, all I need is a friction disk. He even said the cover is a standard dealer part and not uprated?

Spoke to a local VW specialist just now and he said it's best to get a solid flywheel and there would not be any rattle at idle (he's done a few supposily).

All this is very confused any annoyed, can't get a straight answer out of anyone!

Looking on ebay I found this single mass flywheel, is it any good?

Would you be kind enough to name the so called VW specialist since it is well known that removing a DMF and fitting a SMF ( solid flywheel ) will make the car rattle quite a lot as the whole point why the DMF was designed was to stop the rattle which is why it has rubber inserts to dampen the vibration.

Finally got through to the store number. Guy there was saying they normally sell paddle versions of the disk rather than the organic ones.

He's going to try and find out if he can get the other one.

Another thing, that local VW Specialist which remain unnamed mentioned labour being 6 hours (£350) , that sounds longer that I expected.

I am going to try and get the disk swapped for an organic one, and then buy a a Luk (without the CSC as I've got a release bearing from Allards) clutch kit for the pressure plate from (£117.07+vat):

Just noticed this description on the Allards site:

Up-rated friction disc.

This quite simply replaces the standard item, but offers a much higher torque rating capacity. This can be used in conjunction with the standard cover plate and duel mass flywheel arrangement.
