could you clarify your budget too?
If its £50 then not much more than a panel filter, but if it's £1000 you could do alot of the common ones.

carbon fibre covers, billet caps, forge hoses, stainless bolts, polished manifold / charge pipe.

take a look at sixpot's engine bay. looks like mine, but MUCH, MUCH cleaner - looks brand new :)

agreed,

also note on the forge hoses you can get the uprated coolant pipes now. they can look very nice.

charge pipe and manifold make a great difference.

Just a little... ok i'm clear now, well it is monday

For a grand you could replace the hoses with forge ones, carbon engine cover again forge, shiny suspension turret tops, carbon manifold cover, polished alloy washer bottle, etc, etc.... shiny dump valve, relocation kit etc.

That you see you right side of your budget, i would have thought.

And you will have to excuse me becuase althought i am a great fiddler and like to do things with cars,,, the engine bay is my weakness, so forgive me for not knowing a great deal about anything in it. lol

A grand on aesthetic mods goes quite far!

That's not a small budget, by anyones standards.

To me, that grand would be a remap and DynaTwist and possibly a new DV!

Think of the possibilities! :D

A carbon enclosed air box like the BMC CDA is what ya want! Around £150-£180. Looks good, Sounds good and improves performance! :)

A panel filter isn't going to make it LOOK good, is it? (Duuuuuuuhhh!!!!!)

My point was, If his budget was that low, there wasn't much he could do under the bonnet!
As i had no idea of his budget, i used a panel filter as E.G off the top of my head.
Besides, if you take the lid off the airbox it WILL look better than a paper filter
