hmm.. cars shagged, need engine mounts fitted but i dont want to get bumped what should i be paying for a garage to fit all 3 engine mounts? i got a rough guesstimate from a garage for about £80 he said. is this ok?

but then i asked him about bushes and he goes  "mate, you dont replace bushes you just replace the whole joints." so i left him at that hehe.

ill buy the parts just need fitting.

Replacing bushes is a complete bast*rd hence why he suggested getting the whole front wishbone for example and fitting the bush off the car (recomend poly as your doing it anyway) yourself and just fitting the whole wishbone, will save you an absolute fortune in Labour costs!

out of interest mate with your engine mounts fooked was your exhaust knocking BADLY when the car had warmed up? Mines knocking just by the wheel where it loops over the axle!!!

Have you checked the rubber bung things (not sure what they're called). Could also be your heatshield knocking.

yeah the exhaust mounts are fine!! Where abouts does the heatshield sit?? Is it just above the exhaust pipe and it has like a lip on it its attached to the underside of the body above the exhaust??

Leaking? wtf?
haha. We should have a Mk2 stupid stuff said thread/wall.

 they are hydromounts - rubber topped but filled with fluid and leak like a dribbling HO when they split so not as daft as you think

agreed on the arms - replace em complete and you gain several advantages

1- easier to fit
2- cheaper to fit (less labour)
3- both bushes and a new ball joint at same time
4- just as cheap as the bushes themselves usually in the end considering 1+2

************

exhaust banging can be a sign of engine mounts but on mine i could physically lift the engine up with the g/box one split and the exhaust wasn't knocking

the tunnel is tight even with a 1.4 bore size so i would fine tune the fittings between the cat/center and center/rear and all the mounts - it can be done spot on but not easily - usually smacks the bulkhead or above the rear beam if its not spot on

I think this could be the issue with my car. The bore size of the exhaust. Ive put a mk3 cupra exhaust on my car from cat back and i have a knocking which is coming from the under the handbrake area, and its only there when i turn left.

Could it be the centre box knocking somewhere under there??

the exhaust sections are joined lengthways in the centre of the car and horizontally at the rear box in fact the issue first came up fitting the 1st mintek to a Cupra mk3 and the removes cupra one to a 1.4 :)

if its banging the handbrake area on left turns i'd look at the rear box to centre and play with that as it sounds like its set too far to one side

dont forget the bars the rubbers mount too are held in with 1 or 2 bolts and offer adjustment also

i usually try one thing and grab the exhaust and shake it to find out where its knocking and to be honest you have to really give mine some stick to make it hit anything

be wary when tapping the cat and getting a loose tinkle sound as in OH NO its fooked - check the heat shield bolted too it (if its still there lol) and the body heat shield above

either of these loose and it will make a very similar noise

no the body heat shield hasnt got any play in it im guna have to check on weekend if the top of the exhaust is vibratin on the heatshield but i dnt think it is!! What else could this vibratin noise be its cumin from the back o/s wheel where the exhaust goes over the axle!!

the 3 bolted undershield is almost certainly loose/broke or missing too mind

the exhaust goes over by the NS wheel ?

id say look at the front of the rear box - tight as buggery the gap there
