Well, that'll teach me to be so smug about my K&N air filter bargain!!!!
This afternoon, the passenger side window creaked and groaned then finally let go. After pulling the door trim apart, I found that the cable has frayed and snapped (similar to the drivers side a couple of years back).
A trip to the dealers again to order another one (approx. £90). Should be here Friday.

Apart from ebay, dealers seem to be the cheapest. I picked one up for £10 (second hand) off ebay and its still going (touch wood)

You must have dropped lucky with your second hand one. I tried a scrappys second hand one with the drivers window but that lasted 2 months before giving up the ghost.
The dealers new one I fitted is still working fine (or have I just put the kiss of death on that now?).
This time round, no messing and straight to the dealers, saving me doing a job twice.

I replaced my wifes recently, but before i replaced it with a new one i thought i'd try and mend the existing one..... what a waste of time.
My opinion is buy a new one straight away, forget about scrappys or diy mending it nearly always will go tits up on you and end up costing you more in at least time.

 Paid for and fitted the new dealer one just before reading this. Thanks anyway. Will keep the address for the next time.
Window working a treat now (oh! how you take for granted some of the simple things in life, like a window that will open in hot weather. A must when owning a black car with a black half leather interior :D)
