service warning - how can i turn it off?!

hi,
ive tried searching for this (though one of u will be able to find it). ive got a 1.8Se Leon and when i turn the ignition on 'service' comes on where the miliage is. my car was serviced by myself and dad not long ago. how can i turn it off?
im guessing SEAT wont do it for me cos i didnt have my car serviced there? any help would be great! cheers

There might be a way to do it with the stalks... Not sure, but you can do it with VAG-COM. it might be worth an ask in that area for someone to help you out.

Do a search, it CAN be done with the stalks I just can't remember the exact procedure.

well im quite sure, ive rested mines a few weeks back. Try this (this will rest your trip mileage). If you either keep the mileage trip rester pressed or twisted left or right, at the same time turn the ignition key. Think it will give you the option. Then press the trip button again to confirm. Its something like that but not sure.

Ss soon as you turn the ignition on, you push the clock button in, or turn it...can't really remember now! That'll then go through a sequence and then reset to the next 10k miles.

I'm assuming either you've done the service or a garage has done it, but not reset it?

yea i did the service, i didnt mind it at first but its startin to annoy me everytime i turn my engine on lol.

Its something to do with mileage reset, like the guys above said, but cant remember for sure.

Have a look in the manual

It's in there, but I couldn't get it to work when I did mine. In the end I just got angry with it and pressed/twisted it violently and somehow I managed it

i dont have a manual, and my nearest dealer wanna charge me 20 quid for 1!

this is what my manual says...

Switch off engine
Keep the reset button next to the speedometer turned to the right and switch on ignition. "Service" will appear in digital display
Keep the above mentioned button pressed for at least 1 second until the indicator is reset.


That should do it for ya, but as I said previously it didn't quite work that way for me but I just fiddled about until it did

Hi, I watched a mechanic do it on my cupra not long ago. When you turn the ingition to on, hold in the trip reset button for a few seconds. without engine on. then possibly start it whilst holding if not worked first time. hope this helps pal

Switch ignition on
Turn Button to the RIGHT for 1 second
Display will now clear.
Switch ignition off

Thats what Autodate 2007 says very handy to have can reset any service light

i turn it off myself in the mk4, just keep turning it on and off and pressing buttons til it works

i cant be arsed paying over the top prices for something i can do on my driveway, i had the cambelt done and that cost me over £300 from seat but i had to have them do it cos theres no way id attempt it myself

Totally agree but in my case i have a trustworthy specialist near me called APD in poole which will be doing all the work required on mine, i am very handy and dont have an issue changing oil etc, but i would rather retain my cars resale value and as i have a good reliable independant specialist i think getting it serviced there is a better option, for instance i have been quoted only £200 for cambelt including gen parts, and just the metal water pump supplied by myself.
