cuuting out and battery light on

Hi All, wonder if you can help me. I have a 2003 Leon 1.4 and the problem is normally when car warmed up and ive switched it off and then got back into the car and started it. I'll be driving down the road fine and then when I come to a junction I brake and when i put the clutch in, the car stalls and battery light on and lose of power steering.

It starts again fine, but the idle is erratic, sometimes revving too low sounding like its going to cut out again but then the choke must kick in and goes slightly higher then normal idle and does this for a while.

Sometimes stopped at the lights the rev counter will be idling at 800rpm but can slightly increase or decrease, but this doesnt cause it to cut out.
Is this normal?

The thing is this isnt always the case, i can go weeks and months with out it cutting out. However do notice the slight increase/decrease in idling at lights.

Its been like this since after the last service back in Feb at a VW specialist (40k), Its coming upto 50k service soon and just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas.

Also this morning the OH whilst driving to work it was behaving erractly, cut off twice and then soon as its started again, it cut off straight away.
Was filled up when the petrol warning light came on yesterday, so could it be a bit of dirt been sucked in, dreggs in petrol tank as nearly empty?!?

Do you think I should take the car back to be serviced at the same specialist this time round or a dealer, as before the 40k service at specialist was running fine no problems whatsoever.

Thanking you in anticipation :)

i had a similar problem with my Vauxhall Astra. when approaching a roundabout, i dip the clutch and brake slowly. The engine then cuts out. Unfortunately the problem seemed to sort itself out. but just wanted you to know your not alone. lol

There are a couple of things to check. Things like engine coolant temp sensor, MAF sensor etc. With the irratic tick over i'd probably have a look at the throttle body, it may need a clean out and re-adaption.

Does it get worse when it is warm then??

My 1.6 leon does exactly the same. Try running some injection cleaner like redex and cleaning out your air box (mine was full of leafs!) mine seems to be alot better now :) also a good test to rule out your MAF sensor, disconnect it and start your engine, if it doesn't make a difference then you know its duffed.

If its started from cold and once warmed up its fine, wont cut out. Everytime Ive experienced it when fully warm (90deg) after a stop and start again. Although this morning was behaving like this when temp was on a quarter so not even fully warm!

It seems when im turning into a junction n slowin down n cluth in it will cut then, so like the power steering making the idle go under too much and stalls.

Ive searched forum and someone mentioned coolant temp sensor, will vagcom be able to pin point it if its the coolant temp sensor?

ok. just spoke to my mrs who had the same problem.
on her car aparantely, it was the idiling mechanism.

When they did your service, they might have knocked it.

Basically, there is a strip of wire in the engine with a plug on the end, which controls the idiling of your car. If the plug at the end is loose or not connected properly, then it causes it to so what your car has been doing.
Not saying that this is the problem, but it was on her car.
