What boost do your cars run?

Hi everyone, recently fitted a boost gauge to my Ibiza fr tdi and were wondering what bar/psi you were kicking out? Myself, I cant seem to get over zero and keep getting a vacuum. I don't know if I've fitted it wrong or if theres a kink in the hose to the gauge or if the gauge itself is faulty but surely this shouldn't be right???

Are there any tests that I can do to see if its working properly? Any other tdi drivers had the same problem??

Many thanks

Where exactly did you connect the hose?

Only the boost & EGR control system + hose to brake assist should be under vacuum.

Does it only read a slight vacuum at idle?

Its either fitted wrong (most likely) or your car is running ZERO boost, but you'd know if it was as it would drive like a bag of poo.
So i would check you haven't tried fitting it following instructions for a petrol car, and maybe start again.

I fastened the hose on here:

And at idle I get about -0.2 bar

Thanks

Thanks for them, I'm starting to think that I've put the hose on in the wrong place. I'm going to go see my mechanic friend later so I'll see what he says I should do.

Do you mean the orange hose ?

If so, yes it's in the wrong place, you're measuring the vacuum supply to your EGR valve :)

From memory you should get something like 1.3-1.4 bar peak if standard, and maybe up to 1.55-1.6 bar remapped (if you can find a way of tapping into the intake somewhere that is!)

Oh dear. :) Yep, put the vacuum pipe back on the EGR please. I'm surprised it's not gone into limp mode or similar with the vacuum box not reading the EGR. :)

You need to tap into the metal/plastic underneath the EGR using a boost gauge fitting kit. Often this involves drilling the manifold (carefully to avoid metal shards getting in) and drilling in a bolt with a small nipple fitting - to which you can attach the orange pipe.

I see a max of about 1.9 bar on mine, sometimes 2.0

Woo thanks, figured it out. Fortunately the hose was still joined with a T shaped valve which diverts a bit of the boost/air to the gauge.

Muddyboots or devonutopia do either of you have a photo of where you have fitted yours please?

Had a look under the bonnet just now and I have no idea where to get the reading from. To be honest I dont really want to drill into the manifold, so are there any rubber hoses that I can get it from?

Theres no chance I can get the reading off this doo-hicky here:

Well, I did some logs the other day, and oh the joy!

Im running 0 Bar until 2,500rpm then hitting a huge 0.9 Bar till around 50/60mph then it drops back to a big fat zero bar once again

But as said, std should run around 1.3 Bar peak, I know mine used to peak at 1.6 Bar with the map on. Earlier maps were more aggressive as far as I can tell, peaking above that.

if you remove the EGR there are two unused threaded blind hole boses on the side drill one right thro' aprox 1/2 mm and use a threaded 4mm if I remembed right 90' elbow fitting replace and push on flex pipe, good luck you will also get to see a vac when you switch off courtesy of the ASV
