another question i have... will it work on cars that dont allready display the time till tank empty/average this/average that etc

Yes it does! I got a Scangauge from Greece recently too, great bit of kit, displays a large variety of readouts, clears fault codes, acts as a fuel/trip computer (great if you don't have one like me).

I have mine showing air intake temp, volts, mpg and water temp for now. Great watching the air intake temps plummet when you're on the move, watched mine drop from 45 to 24 degrees C - the Pro Alloy intercooler is working well!
