Hi mate,

I have had mine on for about 4 weeks now and all i can say is WOW!!! truely amazing soo fast and jabba are top quality guys, all i will say is when they re-map it you might want to say to them you do mind black smoke as mine smokes like you wouldn't belive, infact i cleaned my car last night went out with a few mates within 20mins the back looked asthough i hadn't cleaned it for a week, with regards to the turbo it spools up so quick and it goes like mad my car now boosts just over 30psi. I can't really comment on reliability as have only had it for a short amount of time but its worth getting boost pipes replaced as mine have already gone pop in a couple of places. definatly worth the money though!!! go for it mate!!

I have the VT2 from Allards which is similar spec to Mikey_H's Jabba hybrid and it is good but I've only had it a just under 2 months I think so again can't comment on reliability. Mine was mapped when it never had an FMIC so isn't producing amazing figures but definitely smokes considerably less then Mikey's I only get a light smoke not black so don't have a very dirty rear after every drive. It's going back to be re-remapped on next Tuesday so will report back then how good it is.

Got to agree with the comments by Fabia and mikey boy. Over fueling is the normal cause of smoking down low and Allard are unsurpassed when it comes to diesel tuning. (Jabbas rolling road has a few number figure problems as well!!)

Any updates on these turbos - trying to decide between turbodynamics stage 2 and allard VT2 - have to be honest, some of the horror stories about turbos only lasting 6 - 12k miles is putting me off right now. I think my KP39 is on the way out at 40K - loads of whistle, and need to get it soreted over xmas if not before.

With the worries over reliability (i do 20K+ per year - without my motor i have no job) i was almost thinking about replacing with standard PD150 unit and leaving the map be until i can retire the car and get a new daily driver.

Anyone know if its possible to 'overspec' the turbo for reliability - e.g. get a bigr turbo then needed and undertune it a bit rather thean get a VT2 or Stage 2 and max it out?

If you're contemplating the TD2, then consider something a bit bigger than the VT2. ;) The TD2 is a VNT20 based turbo, and the VT2 is a VNT17 based turbo. For comparability you want to be looking toward the VT4 from Allard. The VT2 is more like the stage 1 turbo from TD. :)

My VT2 from Allards only lasted about 6.5k - it was replaced but not under warrenty. The new turbo was remapped for more midrange & less top end power, the drives nicer now & smoke is much less than before - hopefully it should last longer than the last one!

I thought the TD2 is similar to the VT2 i.e VNt20 compressor, modified VNT17 turbine?
Whereas TD1 uses moddified compressor and turbine of the VNT17.

I would definitely go for something bigger than a VNT17 turbine. I'm using an Allards VT5 which is fairly under-stressed at the moment. Until I get my new injectors that is. :D

Nothing personal mate but i doudt that any company would have replaced that turbo under warrenty since the turbo was fitted over twelve months ago and you you are not the original owner of the car when the turbo was fitted.:(

If you want to "overspec" a turbo get a VT5 as it is only about £130 more then a VT2 but has a thicker shaft and can handle higher boost for longer. You will need to get a new turbo manifold if you buy a VT5 mind you but you could run a safe 240ish bhp without putting much stress on the turbo.

I remember seeing you at allards.

I think i like the sound of a bigger turbo which is 'undertuned' and not running at its limit. If i went for a bigger turbo i would then have the option of doing the injectors when i retire the car and going for big power without the worry or my daily driver blowing up.

Can I run a larger VT down tuned? I think the VT5 is good for 250bhp? Could i get it mapped to run 210-215 for reliability until i retire the motor? Would the lag be terrible?

Do allard actually do a VT3? i've only ever heard of the VT2 and VT5 - then again, im relatively new to TDis after dcomeing over to the dark side with the VRS...

forgot to add, the other attraction for the VT is that i live only 30 mins from allards, which makes me want to use them over a company which is the other side of the country.
