To answer your question and not go on about speed limits on public roads, there arent any speed limiter's on a FR TDi other than the limited power/weight/aero that stops the car.
I assume you have done this 139ish on a stretch of tarmac, since gone back after the remap and no change of results?
I had the same thing happen to me at 142mph (on the clock) I personally dont think a remap/exhaust/induction kit etc has increased the top speed of my car to any degree worth shouting about. It does get there alot quicker mine
Saying that, ive seen 149mph (on the clock) since both of those tests.
Depending on how many miles the car has done, and what mods you do, you might see a change.
One question that you might want to think about, does it matter if it has got a limiter at 140mph!? Its alot faster than you should be going on any public round, and I cant see you needing even that sorta speed on a race track with a mere 180bhp wont get you there quick enough before you run out of track!
Id be more worried if your 0-60 time, 1/4 time 0-100 etc etc time havnt changed since the remap. Which im guessing they will have, and generally they are the more important figures to be worrying about.. after all the Atom/Elise/VX werent built for top speed, but can still upset most supercars round a normal race track

What RPM is the engine doing at those road speeds ?
It may well be so high that the power - whether standard or remapped - has dropped off considerably. Have a look at a few RR graphs and you'll see what I mean.

I think flat out your gonna be limited by the gear ratio of top gear.
Although your car may be producing more power now flat out it will still be limited to say 5000rpm which when converted through the gear box will still equate to the same speed flat out.
I could be wrong but as far as I can tell you need to either change the ratio of 6th gear or have your car rev further or reduce the weight of the car to get any noticeble increase in top speed.

i'd go along with what devonmikeyboy & Gazb say your top speed is limited by your gear ratios. so even if you had a 1000bhp you only ever guna see 140 mph
yea but if his car only has enough power to get him to 4000rpm in 6th if he had more power surely the car would pull further than that i have only even gone that fast once when i went up santapod i carried on flooring it untill i had to brake and i was doing about 135 but the nedle was still going up at a fair rate for that speed with 176bhp havent done it since big turbo as i hear running them hard at high speeds isn't good news!!
thats wot i was thinking, thats why i thought the remap would have made a slight different to top end
the more power you have the quick your 0/60 will be. but your gearing stops you going any faster top end. like when you ride a bike in low gear you get to a point where no mater how fast you peddal your not going to go faster

Yes, but at no point has he hit the rev limiter in 6th, so if he had 1000bhp (to quote another post) at his peak power now, he would still have circa 200bhp plus at the rev limiter of 5.1k on a FR TDi which on the clock would look something like 160mph. At that point yes he wouldnt be able to go any faster without a longer final drive train.
At the moment he is stuck simply by lack of power.
Example.
Seat Ibiza PD130 Sport - Has a 6 speed gear box, but the top speed (according to seat) is actually in 5th as the 6th gear is too long to hit the top speed in. Thats due to lack of power in 6th to go above 129mph (according to seat) remap it, and it then has more power, and 6th becomes more usuable and then ive heard figures of 152mph (actual) being achieved due to better gearing but same power as a FR TDi. The PD130 Sport is geared to something daft like 196mph. Its never going to get there, due to power aswell as a few other things
maybe he should go for warp speed in 5 gear and not 6th. like you say (t spark)he may go over the 140mph then,, maybe.

Afriad not, as the 6 speed gear box in the FR TDi has completly different ratio's and 5th gear is only good for something like 130mph. Future reference, you might aswell quote my post, then I know its a reply to me, so you dont need to type my name out
Hang on, top speed limited by gear ratio, sorry but unless you are on the limiter that's just plain not true.
Top speed will be where the amount of thrust is equal to the resistance (be that friction from tyres, wind resistance, etc.)
More thrust should in theory increase top speed, but I suspect that at that part of the rev range the map doesn't increase the thrust dramatically.

i think this maybe the problem....
maybe the map is only adjusted up to 4k rpm and left after that..... one thing tho, since it has been mapped it doesnt die off as quick as it used to, it keeps pullin (obviously not as much as it would going from 2k to 3k but..) to 5k where it dies obviouslyT. Spark

Thats my point. the gear ratio's allow for more speed than 139ish. So its simply a factor of power/weight/aero that is stopping the car going any quicker.
Now if the same car had alot, lot more power then it should be able to hit the limiter in 6th, which then means its the final drive that is limiting the cars top speed.
