Hey guys. I'm looking to tune up my 1.9TDI Mk2 Ibiza and was looking for suggestions.

I currently have just a performance (universal) air filter. Is it worth replacing this with a green panal filter and drilling the air box, or should i leave the uni' filter on? Probabaly doesn't make much of a difference though huh? I didn't replace the filter for the performance as it won't be noticeable, but for a better engine note, and the fact that you can clean the uni' filter so you don't have to keep buying a new one. ;)

The car will need a new clutch soon. Should i replace it with a stock clutch or an aftermarket clutch? What i mean is is it worth putting an aftermarket clutch on the stock car? Is it worth putting an aftermarket clutch on a car with a performance filter and performance exhaust? What BHP should the car be running before an uprated clutch is needed?

i would be very grateful if someone could suggest some things for me... Firstly, something/s that costs very little, something/s that's a bit more expensive, and something/s where money isn't an object, without being too silly, like sticking a different engne in the car... ;)

Is this a nice start..? Performance filter with drilled air box and a performance exhaust? Anything else?

I hear people talking about re mapping their car... At the expense of sounding a complete novice, is this something to do with the E.C.U? Is it a new one or just changing settings on the orignal E.C.U?

Brakes and suspension can wait as i don't rag it round corners and always leave enough braking time and distance, i think it's pointless to brake at the last second as you just waste fuel...

The car is currently running about 90BHP. When should i uprate the brakes? 120BHP? Has anyone tuned a TDI (90BHP) Mk2 Ibiza? What did you do and what's it running now? Is it possible to get 130-150 BHP out of the 1.9TDI? If so, how? Can you fit a bigger turbo?

A lot of questions i know, sorry, i'm just curious as to what i can do with my Ibiza.

A million thanks in advace to anyone who replies and sorry for the long post...

With your clutch i would say yes it is better to up-grade it now especially as you intend to upgrade your power and as we all know diesel produce alot of torque.

With performance go the usual airfilter, exhaust, re-map and then from there you would probably have to go bigger intercooler, bigger turbo. I'm someone with more diesel knowledge will be along soon :)

If you looking to more power then yes fit an uprated clutch now..... is it electrical (ecu) or mechnical??

If it's electrical then fit a front mount intercooler (fmic) and get it remapped.... maybe a bigger turbo (from a newer Ibiza maybe?).

If it's mechnical then, up the fueling, get a boost gauge fitted then up the boost to, if you still looking for more power then fit a fmic and adjust fueling/boost again.

Brakes and suspension can wait as i don't rag it round corners and always leave enough braking time and distance, i think it's pointless to brake at the last second as you just waste fuel...

If you thinking that then why tune your engine? The more power you go for then the less your mpg will be compared to standard!

90s are ECU'd, so you'll need a remap or a tuning box. VanAaken make the best tuning boxes, most of the others are just 7p resistors in a box.

You can get 280mm brakes from the GTI 2.0 16v or the Cupra 1.8T that'll fit straight on and it won't cost much for the conversion.

I'd get that universal filter off your car and get the old airbox back on. That's probably why you're down on power.
