Doors won't lock/unlock!!!

JPM

Just walked up to my Leon and pressed the button on the key to unlock and nothing happened! I ended up having to put my key in the door (old school) to get in. Also, the Mrs had to climb over the drivers seat to get in!

Funny thing is that the remote locking still unlocks/locks the boot and turns the alarm on/off, but not the doors. I can hear a solonoid clicking so it sounds like the key is not at fault. Also the unlock/lock button near the electric window controls fails to do anything.

Perhaps a fuse has gone? By the way - it's been raining a fair bit today and i did have some water under the door so wonder if that's something to do with it?

Any ideas/help on what might be at fault would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

After reading a few similar recent posts on here I would try a ecu reset. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 20-30 mins and reconnect.

Thanks for that, i'll give it a go tonight. I didn't have much luck with a search - i'll try that again as well.

JPM sounds like your Convenience Unit has gone. This happened on my old 110tdi! Has other things stopped working such as interior lights when you open the door?

Cost me £400 quid to get it replaced :(

BEFORE you spend 400 quid, listen to me.

find your conveience unit(OCATVIA VRS is up under the dash near the steering wheel)take it out, find the part number and go find one on e-bay or a scrappy. find someone with vag -com and get them to recode your key(s) to the new(er) unit.there are many many different cars for the unit.
i paid 30 quid for a unit, and ended up going to skoda for a re-code(didn't know it had to be re-coded) so i apid more than i would have liked, but FAR less than skoda would have charged for a new unit.
i am happy if i have to replace mine again and again now i know how to. please don't go to your dealer if you can use a screw driver/laptop.

i'll show you pics when i get home of my vrs's unit ;)

Just went down to Jabba Sport who kindly ran a vag -com diagnostics test. The test show zero faults!!! They recommended going to a auto electrical specialist to try and fault find. Sounds like this might be a difficult one to solve so any suggestions are really appreciated.

Thanks.

i started by removing door cards and looking for signs of water ingress, check plugs for corroded connections, replaced or cleaned fuse blades.
i did find early on the central locking control unit fuse, took this out and when i replaced it after a clean,it kinda reset itself.but mine HAD shown a fault code to begin with.

oh and btw can't you just open the mrs door from the drivers side?doesn't it release the door when you lean across and pull the handle? :D

edit: fuse F6 in the octavia vrs 3rd row along from the left 3rd from top

Thanks for the extra info WeeJase. I got the bottom half of the door card off this evening and then couldn't figure out how to get it off completely! I'll have another go in the morning.

No I can't open any doors from the inside or out other than the drivers - it's a right pain in the arse!!!

The issue turned out to be a blown fuse after all, which was good news as it only cost a few quid. I had tried changing the fuse before it went to the garage, but apparently you need to reset the central locking (involves a sequence of key turns and button presses) after changing the fuse to get it to work again.

I'm just glad it wasn't the expensive control unit!!!
