Get it done at 50k while its in there and get the water pump changed if it does not have the metal impeller type (pre 04?) they are only £30 exchange and the cambelt needs to come off to replace it.

Pre 04 will almost certainly be plastic impellers on the water pump, unless it was changed before you got your car if it was second hand. From 04 all water pumps supplied (remanufactured) should be metal impellers on the pump. Your car can of course be made in 2003 and registered some time in 2004 so check with the supplying dealer if poss!

I don't believe the VAG dealers actually ever went over to metal impellered water pumps. It's something I was only able to get from my local GSF...

At 50k - sod it! Just get the oil changed, and wait until 60k. No harm in waiting, unless you come close to the 4 year secondary cambelt change recommendation....? I did mine at 40k, but then I had the engine in bits fitting a special camshaft, so was no extra work to do the belt and pump at the same time.

Sorry to jump in on this thread but don't see the point in starting a new one if you guys can help me on here :)

Looking to change my cambelt in the very near future, so went into the local VW dealer with my chassis number and engine code (ASZ - PD130) and asked for a timing belt kit, and water pump (decided I might as well change this at the same time).

All was fine, he got it up on the computer with prices etc, then asked what car it was for, I said Ibiza PD130 54 reg, and he said "ah no, sorry can't supply you with these parts, you will have to go to your seat dealer (which is miles and miles away!) because there is no guarantee these parts will fit"

So I walked into another local VW dealer on the way to work yesterday, and they said yep no problem and ordered the parts in. Got a call this morning to say are in stock now.

BUT, this has me a bit worried now, could the parts possibly be different for say a Golf/Polo PD130 ASZ then my Ibiza ASZ? Just wondering before I go and pick them up. Haven't yet paid for them.

Anyone got the part numbers I need??

Thanks :)

I very much doubt you will have a problem I personally get all my parts from VW now because my local seat dealer is terrible. It took them 10 days to get me a glow plug! I am sure you will no probs with the parts fitting.

Hi,

I have a Leon Cupra TDI. I was prepared for the cambelt change at 60k miles but after the service the dealer said it did not need doing on thes model until 100k???

Im seriously worried now and think I will take into to another Seat dealership.

Any one else had this advice from Seat Northampton?

Hi, i've just had my 60,000 service on my 04 tdi 150 Leon - the garage recommended i have the belt changed, which i plan to book it in for next week. Has anyone actually experienced problems with the belt failing around this mileage on a leon?

im tempted to leave it a bit longer as nothing has ever gone wrong with the car in the 3 years ive had it but realise its better to be safe than sorry.
