V5 170 Chipped!

I did,
IMO, not worth it. Only got an extra 13 BHP and 12 or 13 ft/Lbs Torque. Power delivery was smoother but not enough of a difference to make a difference (if you know what i mean). Also throttle response improved a bit.

I actually think that 13bhp is a very good gain for a NA car. :)
I would think that it only makes sense after other changes are done like cames, intake and exhaust.

In my experience the 20v V5 really likes Optimax (or probably BP Ultimate or the new super Esso stuf) and that improves throttle response after a few weeks use - might be worth a try and cheaper than chipping, plus no insurance problems!

Hi Mike, its Petros again.

Can you post the dyno-chart? Or at least send it to me? It maybe sounds wierd to you, but according to google, you re the only one on earth that posted anywhere, claiming has dynoed a V5 20v. It's a piece of history man! ;-)

Looking frwrd to hearing from u

Petros,
Sorry the car went ages ago and i have no idea what i did with the charts (although i will have a quick look through my old paperwork). I actually changed it for a Leon Cupra (which i remapped), then changed that to a SAAB 95 Aero petrol (250 BHP through a terrible chassis but quick in a straight line). Thats gone now as well. Bought a V5 185 BHP diesel car instead.

I'll let you know if i find them.

I must try that google search.

Mike.

Thank you all for the responces, especially Mike. I hope you can find something about your old dyno-charts. If not, my net wandering will go on!

You said you have a V5 diesel 185 ps? What is this? Does it have anything in common with the 2.3 VR5?

His last post on here was in March 2005 so you may be waiting a very long time for a reply! I have charts for my remapped 10v but that's not what you want.

I am aware of your charts and have even print 'em! (to do some "fantacy" gearing selection for practice - build gearbox ratios theoretically)

Glad they're of some use! I would actually like to see some 20v charts pre-remap to see how it compares to my remapped 10v - particularly in relation to the torque curve.

I'd like to see this also!

To be honest, i have sth close to dyno-chart for a 20v. It is the "estimation" of the engine manual. They have an indicated chart that is like a "model" one with a bold rough rounded line for power.

It goes up to 6400 rpm (although limiter varies through the gears from 6200 to 6800 i feel) and seem to peak at the end of it (6400) 170PS.

BTW, what is "touareg torch"? What part of touareg is this, what is it like?

I would like to compare it with my remap because the 20v is meant to put out 168 bhp as standard which is almost exactly what I got from my remap. It's just that some people have said that whilst the 20v has more power they prefer the more usable torque of the 10v and I wondered if the charts would help to confirm this.

The touareg torch is literally what it says. It is an small torch from the VW touareg which plugs neatly into the cigarette lighter and is on permanent charge so you always have a torch when you need it without any fear of the batteries having run out. It is small enough for the ashtray cover to close so it is hidden from view. It is very neat but pricey. Look here: http://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/730502.phtml

Ignore where they have located it in the link, as you know the Toledo/Leon ashtray has a pull down lid and it tucks right in there

Oh, thanks for the info about the torch. I had forgot what "torch" means ;-) As for the comparisson you want, i will post you the link to the engine manual of the 20v to see the indivative plot.

As for the ppl saying that they prefer 10v because of its more usable "low" power, i think its crap to justify their desision. 10v is more powerful than 20v until 3000 rpm. After 3000 20v takes lead. Will you really take advantage of the more power of the 10v till 3000rpm? It's like saying you like driving at 2500 rpm.

As far as your chipped car is concerned, you must be higher than a stock 20v at all range, exept the high peak for a couple of horses maybe. You must perform better at all tests against a stock 20v with MAYBE the exception of the top speed for a couple of miles again...

Petros,
Sorry, i searched for the graphs but i must have thrown them out.

Current car is a Volvo - the engine is the D5.
Good luck searching.
Mike.
