i have a 1994 mk2 seat ibiza 1600i sport, when i come to start it in the morning it starts ok but the revs idle really low and it judders, so i have to keep my foot on the gas till it warms up abit. it also does it if its really wet aswell. i have been told by my local garage that it could be the stepper motor on the fuel system thats faulty. does anyone know if that is the problem?? and how much i would be looking at to get it repaired?? any help would be appreciated!! cheers

my car is always idling funny, ive just gotten used to it now! didnt think she was going to start the other morning, but i found revving "gently (wink wink)" got her going a treat!

wouldnt have a clue were to start!! is it a diy job or best to get a garage to do?

is it ok once its warmed up as such ?

if so it sounds like the inj temp sensor (end of the head on a 16v) not sure on yours

they tell the ecu the engine temperature for warmup - sort of like a choke signal in a way

when they play up the symptoms are crap running cold but fine when warm or vice versa fine cold and crap when warm either way its the ecu running your fuelling without the correct info

I've got a kinda similar problem but just put it down to the engine.

When my car is cold it idles between 900/1k revs, but once warmed up it drops below 750, it does dip or anything, it just sits, but I feel it's really quite low. Anyone?

I would make your throttle body the first port of call as its a free fix and will eliminate one possibility off the list. Its the butterfly valve in the centre of the air filter (ufo shaped thing on top of the engine), clean this out with a rag and some WD40.

once mine has warmed up it idles normally but from time to time it tends to idle high aswell i cant win!!

Ive got the same problem. have replaced the temp sensor but still the same problem. When starting the car from cold the revs are low and sometimes car just cuts out. Once earm the car runs fine.

Help!!!

remove and test both of them

theres a 4 pin in the housing and another one in the end of the head

Ive got a 2l 8v cupra not the 16v. I have replaced the 4 pin one. Does my car have another one as well? If so where? And what housing are you refering to? Sorry if they seem like silly questions but haven't got my haynes with me at the moment!

Cheers

is the throttle body in the same place in a 1999 1.4 also? i have a similar kind of problem! it's quite funny because aswell as that when i'm sitting still (out of gear clutch out) and i either put the electric windows all the way down or all the way up, the revs will drop, shudder then sit back at 1000 (ish)!!

9/10 this is cured be cleaning the throttle body . the prob is that the edge of the valve gets coked up , and in the idle position it gets 'sealed' therfor not enough air enters the engine , causing stuttering and stalling . you will prob also feel the car nearly stalling when you reach junctions etc when you ease off power and dip the clutch , you may even feel the steering 'go hard' as the pas pump looses power due to an inevitable stall .

I recommend a bottle of redex and a toothbrush , clean the valve ( with the engine running) .

Hi mate. Ive cleaned my throttle body thoroughly. Taken it off and given it a good seeing to. The problem is only when i start the car, generally from cold, the idles are low and sometimes the car cuts out. I have to give it gas to not have it cut out. Within 1 minute or 2 the car is fine and idles normal.

yes , id start with cheapest thing first and keep goin till prob is cured . before changin filter id put 1/2 bottle of redex in the tank
