seat leon engine conversion to a cupra engine or adding turbo, HELP

im sorry im very new to this site and if iv posted this in the wrong section please guide me to where it should be...

really need some help on this topic

anyways at the moment i am thinking about doing an engine conversion on my seat leon 1.8se to a cupra engine, or should i just add a turbo

i phoned a few places and best price iv had so far on just labour is 2k anyone know who can do these

i can probly get a donour lcr but is it worth doing or is it better to just add a aftermarket turbo

i dont just want to buy a lcr becuase one i havnt got the money to buy it at once and two i want a project to transform the car lol

so basically does anyone have any info about conversions and can it be done

any help would be great

Firstly, Hi and welcome to the forum.

In all honesty I think by the time you have done the conversion and upgraded everything you would need to upgrade in order to get the car equipped with a turbo, you would definately had been better off selling the car you have and buying a real cupra. I have seen facelift cupra's going for about 6k, which really is not a massive ammount of money. If I were you, and Im just speaking honestly, sell the 1.8SE and even if it means saving for a cupra or early cupra R you will deffo be happier.

i would just save up for a cupra or,if you already have the 2k you would spend on labour use it as a deposit for a cupra/r on finance or put it towards a new beast!!thats what i would do.
i even wish id just bought a lcr!!!

is it really worth doing? there is already two turbo cars in the MK1 line-up. either transplanting an engine or strapping on a turbo to your current car will make it more expensive to insure than a cupra. if you're adamant about keeping your leon as a project then have you considered a VR6 conversion? that would be a bit different

I've been thinking about this too, I want to put an R32 golf engine in mine, that should be fun, I love that V6 engine note

well to me personally i dnt mind spending the money on the conversion because the parts will cost 1-2k and the labour 2k so will stil be cheaper then a lcr
and i am also going to try buying a donour lcr so i can change all the stuff to convert it

does anyone know if there is anyone whos done the conversions before
and whats the vr6 conversion about

personally i jus love the noise made from the turbo especially with a dump valve lol and also a vr6 is probly alot heavier on fuel

were are you planning on getting your conversion done from IBD
and the r32 do sound sweet

If I were to get it done, it would be attempted in my garage, cant go round giving people money spanner works when I can do it myself. just a bit of research really.

oh ryt no my dad has his own garage n stuff but i think it would just be way to out there for me to risk it, but if theres a book or info on it out there then mayabe i could get few people and myself to try it, the engine removal and replacement wouldnt be a problem just the wiring loom and stuff becuase theyve never done conversion to other engines just replacements realli but if there is somewere were i can read up on it that would be great

Dont think the vr6 would be much good on fuel,a 20vt is probably worse!!!
if your thinking of spending £4k on doing this id see how much you can get for your car as it is too.
if you can get 2k for it youll have 6 grand to go and buy a cupra without the hassle!!!!

basically guys im not really looking to sell this one as ive had it for so long and done some mods to it which will cost me quite a bit later so am going to try selling me other car and putting the money towards a conversion from that....
thats why im looking for help on the insue really were i could get it done from and is it better for the conversion or a aftermarket turbo

im sure ages ago my brother was after putting a 1.8 20vt into his mk3 golf and he saw sense and didnt do it!!!i deal with awesome gti mostly and they have been really helpful,jabbasport are good too give either a ring tommorow and see what they say.dont be worried about asking them.
however my guess is they will probably say buy a cupra!!its not just the engine you get with the lc or lcr you get better interior,bodykit and spec.

Do a custom turbo job - if any!
There is no point, at all, in putting a 20vT lump in, especially out of the same car!
In fact I'm talking rubbish, don't do it at all,
sell it standard and transfer your mods to a very eary cupra you'll get for cheap!

well thing is i spoke to jabbsport and he said he wouldnt do it, and the thing was when i rang another place up he said it would be better to get and lc engine then just put a turbo on

Am I going mad?? Doesn't the Leon Cupra have a turbo already?? If not then someone has spent some serious money fitting one to mine, and probably every other cupra on the road...........

it sounds to me like you'd be better off doing some research into what is involved. the cost of fitting a turbo to a N/A engine won't be cheap as you'll need to alter the compression ratio to suit forced induction. then you need to decide on what turbo to use, there is no point in spending loads of money on the conversion to then use a K03s/K04 you'd be better off going for a bigger turbo instead. personally i'd not bother doing what SEAT have already done........ as i said earlier in the thread i'd go for a VR6 lump from a MK3 golf.
