Steering full lock knocking noise.

This may have been asked before but I couldn't find the thread.

I noticed a loudish knocking/clunking noise when manouvering my car into a parking space at full lock today. I haven't noticed it before but I did have my partner and his two kids in the car with me so the extra weight may have made a difference. At first I thought the sound was the front of the car rubbing on the kerb but I was nowhere near it.

The car is a 2004 Ibiza 1.4SX and it has Michelin Pilot premacy front tyres which have been on since before I bought the car last April. There are no mods and it only has just under 24000 miles. The warranty expires in Dec, could this be a serious/warranty issue? CV joints gone already?

I didn't notice the noise getting faster as I was going at a constant rate. I guess I could take it into a carpark tomorrow and try it out a bit by driving in circles, but I might look like a chav trying some kind of stunt!!:cartman:

I'm off work all this week so I might phone Cheshunt Seat and see if they can have a look before Friday. Hmmm don't suppose either of the above would be covered by warranty..?? It's not exactly a high mileage car is it!

Hallo,

I've had this from new on my '03 1.2 (77K miles now).

Can't remember which garage I asked at (the crappy one at SMC Windsor or the great one at Camberely), but I do remember them saying it was OK.

Do post if you hear different from Cheshunt though.

I have the same issue with my 56 plate DAB. Mostly when turning very tightly to the right I get an clunking noise, this only occurs every so often though.
The car is going into SEAT on thurs to have it checked, so we'll se how that goes!

Had this myself mate. I ignored it and then on receiving the car back from its MOT the dealer said they replaced cracked bushes under warranty for me. Get it sorted before urs runs out in December ;)

The earliest they can have a look is Tuesday morning. I'm hoping that it will be a warranty thing. Having had a washing machine breakdown and having to purchase a new washing machine this month I can't really afford an expensive car repair!! Especially since I've hardly been driving it recently!!

Weird. As I couldn't book the car into the SEAT dealer until Tuesday and I'm driving up near Lowestoft soon, I got it checked at a local garage run by a neighbour of ours. No knocking when I was driving it out of our drive on full lock, no knocking when I drove it into the premises.

The guy came out and drove it round the carpark in tiny little circles- no knocking. He parked it up on full right lock and had a look at the wheel. Couldn't see anything wrong. PHEW but

Our only conclusion was that with my partner and the kids in the car with me the extra weight was causing something to rub at full lock. No idea what - perhaps the mudflap but it looked like it was OK, it definitely sounded like a clicking/knocking noise !! At least the car is safe to drive!

The Verdict, Just got the car back from the dealer and they said the exhaust was hitting the subframe apparently when turning sharply, all adjusted now. Noise seems to be gone! We'll see how it goes

I don't have an underseat compartment so they can't say that to me. My knocking noise happened on full right lock but only with weight in the car, wonder if it could be the subframe on mine???
