Hey guys. I've just done a search but havent found much.

Basically I had my car remapped....1000k miles later and the clutch slipped a bit. Got it replaced with a Helix clutch and flywheel yesterday and it rattles. A lot. Very loud.

Does anyone elses rattle badly? and is there anyway i can get around it? I wasnt told this info by the garage before it was fitted.

What they have done is fitted SMF ( Single Mass Flywheel ) to your car which will make it rattle when your car is in neutral and removed your DMF ( Daul Mass Flywheel ) which is designed to remove the rattle and other vibrations. If the tick over revs are rasised a bit and thicker then standard oil used in the gearbox can help a bit.

Its so loud! Like my engine uses chains instead of belts! :( So gutted! Theres obviously no way a DMF can be put on with the upgraded clutch? so its the flywheel thats making it knock and rattle? I have noticed it cuts out at 1500rpm.

Helix clutch can be fitted with a stock DMF or a SMF. SMF happens to be cheaper to buy then a new DMF. Did you ask the garage to replace the flywheel when fitting your clutch ? What does it show on your receipt ?

Could they not fit a DMF instead if you take it back and ask them? It'll have some sort of warranty. If the part costs more you could pay the difference.

Bet they would be asking something for labour as well though - but then again they should have realised which but was right for your car.

I didnt ask them to replace the flywheel, they said it all came as a package so i presumed it needed fitting? did i not need to change it?

and on my receipt, it says:

604610 Helix Clutch cover: £280.25
704611 Helix Centre plate: £115.55
HF9287 240MM solid flywheel: £278.49

So if i change the SMF for a DMF it will stop the rattle on idle???

Hi mate when i was going for a clutch upgrade jabba told me if i go for the one you have you get terrible noises on tickover when sat still i said surely it can't be that bad his reply was "mate its not bad its aweful* he also said you wouldn't need that clutch unless your looking to push out huge power and the clutch upgrade was alot less, there was a guy selling the same thing you have in the for sale section and his reasons for selling were he couldn't stand the rattle when sat still, i wouldnt worry either put up with it or pay to have a dmf

If you didn`t ask them to replace the flywheel it shouldn`t have been done as all the above parts can be bought separately so that you can just fit an uprated pressure plate if you want etc. Fitting a DMF will stop the rattle but you don`t need to buy one as they have just apparently taken off a perfectly good one off of your car so where is that DMF ? If you never asked for a new flywheel and they never stated that they where fitting a new different flywheel that would rattle like all SMF do on diesel cars i would be very pissed off with the company and tell them to fit the old DMF back onto the car for nothing and if they don`t have the old DMF get them to buy a new one and fit it. Make sure it is a new DMF as well with a receipt for proof and warranty not some dodgy secondhand one that might blow up any second. Basically mate they have taken you for a ride and ripped you off, it`s up to you weather you let them or not. Refuse to pay for any parts or labour to sort this out as it is their screw up not yours.

Thanks for the responses guys. Been onto the garage and Helix. Helix have said they dont make a DMF so they are custom making me a clutch to fit the SEAT DMF so it should be ok.

Just hope the flywheel can handle it.

Dario: I was told it only rattled on the diesels?

Somebody is telling you a load of crap mate. Helix don`t make a DMF true. Helix are " custom making me a clutch to fit the SEAT DMF " boll0x ! The clutch you had in your car fits a DMF already ! Stupid question but i guess you don`t know if the garage put in an organic or sinthered disc in your clutch ?

Also, look at it this way. When you come to sell the car (assuming you have the same set up as just now), you're going to have do an awful lot of persuading to get someone to buy it the way it is.

Best way would be to get them to fit the old flywheel if it was perfectly OK before it was taken off (if it hasn't been thrown away), and the Helix clutch. Pay nothing more for labour and ask for a refund for the SMF. If you get a new clutch fitted, you don't automatically get a flywheel included!

There are a few tuning companies out there who seem to be jumping on the clutch slip paranoia bandwagon, and ripping people off..

IMO its similar to the whole "what you need is a sports cat" crap - yep been there done that

For most people with a standard turbo and a stock clutch in fairly good condition, all that is needed is an uprated friction disc to stop clutch slip.

Sports CAT are a waste of money i agree. On upgrading the clutch you should fit an uprated pessure plate first not the disc as it is the pressure plate which is the weakest link.
