Hi all,

I'm new here on your Forum, and let me just say it's great!

Been reading a bit and finding some intersting topics!

Need some advice please!

I'm from South Africa and SEAT is new in our country.......I'f had my car for about 4 Months now (Ibiza Cupra TDI 160BHP) I travel alot and the car went in for is 1st service about a month ago, and since then is been down on power! The VW South Africa are the Importers and Service Agents for our SEAT's, so its been serviced by them, and accourding to them they loaded some ECU update on the car when it was there! Now they cant seem to fix the problem!

Do you guys know about issuse like this in your region? What am I to do know?

hmm that is odd. havent heard of that issue over here. Im wondering if they have dislodged something else when servicing, do you have any other associated problems like it smoking under acceleration?

The car is smoking,,,,,not more on less than usual! They had the car on the test machine and everything checks out!.....:(

Another thing that bothers me is the fact that (and I have not done this yet) some of the guys on our SA forum has had there cars Dyno-tested.....standard Cupras's of the floor making hugh figures like (180BHP/138.6KW) and close to 400NM atw.....!!!!:blink: If your intersted look at: www.seat-sport.co.za - the Thread name is Cupra TDI Power Run.......thats just one!

Yeah now that would be bizzare...... would be interesting to see what yours shows on the dyno.

I will put it on the Dyno today and let you know!:) What does the 160HP Cupra there by you do on the dyno?

I wonder if SEAT supply cars over there with an uprated map on the ECU due to the weather being hot and have subsequently found out the cars are performing better than expected and have issued updated software to detune them slightly.

Just a thought as I have heard manufacturers do issue different maps for hotter countries.

Here are my Dyno Specs from Monday:

Power: 128.2KW/170BHP @ 3650 RPM
Torque: 420NM @ 2650 RPM !

I think the Dyno was over reading!!!!!:(

Did you buy your car from new, or second hand?

I'm just wondering if the car had in fact already been remapped before you bought it. You say the dealer applied an ECU update when they serviced it, so perhaps that has effectively taken it back to standard.

Looks about right to me.

I think David is right - maybe the car had been remapped before you got it, and the dealers have reloaded a standard map.

True! But I bought the car new! So I dont know,,,,it would be strange if it was remapped from new!?

Just take it to a tuning place - they can tell if there is an uprated map on it, but it sounds like your just getting used to the car - so think it's down on power

Everytime I go on holiday & have a few weeks away from the car, it always seems more powerful, but you get used to the speed quickly & it seems much slower

I know that one gets use to your car at some stage, but a friend of mine also has an Cupra TDI 160BHP and his has not been serviced yet, he took my car for a spin after the service and said that it's not feeling as strong as his! Even the dealer said the same after test driving as well as an technician from VW!

Another issue could be that they f****d something up when doing the service ? Killed the MAF etc ?

Try unplugging the MAF & take it for a spin
