Does anyone know what is considered a service life of a hybrid turbo?

Would imagine a hybrid turbo like the VT2 would have a service life at least as long as the standard one and be under a lot less stress than a standard remapped turbo trying to give you 190 bhp.
Bigger VT series turbos should be under less stress as they are having to do less "work" but it depends on how much you are asking the turbo to do and other factors such as has it been mapped properly etc...

Yes that was what I was thinking, that it should be less stressed
It's only been on the car 6k miles & had 2 oil changes in that time, no drag racing, no track days, no sustained periods at full boost, no sweltering hot conditions & living in Devon it's mostly short 3rd gear blasts to overtake.

I would expect a hybrid to cope better remapped than a standard turbo. My VT2 did at least 35,000 miles and is still going well on someone else's Fabia now. My current VT5 I imagine will go on forever as long as I keep servicing it and not giving it any stick when it's cold, and letting it spool down if I use too much boost close to the end of my journey. :)

Does anyone know the part numbers of the items that make up the Allard VT2 turbos, are they easy to obtain?
I'm wondering in case Allards won't replace it under warrenty.

Think you will find the Allard turbo specs are a closely garded secret.

And Allards do provide a warranty on their turbos if they map them. But I'm very happy with the way my VT5 boosts up, and down. And it appears to be ultra reliable too. Not had a murmur since the VT5 conversion was done a few months back.

I believe they hold more guard over the VT5 and above. I don't know what the hell is in my turbo but I know when I got a look underneath my car the housing it's in is massive, and there's "bits" I don't recognise. I wish I could find out what makes the supercharger sound on early boost though. :D

Superchargers generall whirr imagine you cooling fan changing pitch based on your acceleration! normally this is drowned out by the engine later in the revs but can be very apparent early on.

And Devon - do you get much lag on the VT5 or could you safely say its more powerful at any revs than the stock unit? (is it the same as a beezer tdi cupra turbo?) Same question for the VT2.

Thanks

It's not as powerful up to 2000rpm because the turbo is designed (and mapped) to give massive power from 2500 onwards. Saying that, it's no slouch, and there is minimal lag generally, especially when starting from higher revs.

The supercharger noise just appears to be something the turbo does. You boot it, the boost builds up whilst this supercharger'esque noise resonates, then you lose that noise due to the exhaust drowning it out.

A VT2 is the same as a vnt17/20 ;)

Yep it`s ment to be a VNT17/20 but as there is no such thing really as a VNT17 or 20 what is the spec ?

Thanks for that Mike, I'm guessing I can measure the old parts to determine the sizes as the turbo was not destroyed - the bearing is shot & has allowed the exhaust wheel to brush the housing.
What are Allards normally like with warrenty claims?

The only person to have any trouble with a turbo was Triple D who is now banned but if you check his old posts he was very happy with how he was treated. I do feel sorry for you mate but i know Llyod is working every waking hour to try and catch up with all the back orders and cars that where booked in.

Didnt know this, I should have spotted it reading through his old posts
