My next mod....help needed from computer geeks

Hello all,

My next mod, removing the front air vents and installing a cage made out of carbon fibre to hold a PDA, which can run SatNav and a touch screen.

Now, that I can work out how to do, but.....

JBS do a remap with 3 modes, which I guess can be standard/full remap/somewhere in between.

What I want is to link this to my PDA so I can have the switch onscreen.

I guess this would have to be linked to VagCom, is this possible with a PDA?

Any advice appreciated.

Ciao for now.....

calling people computer geeks aint the best way to start a plea for help.....

you need an interface cable for a start, if you dont have one then you'll need one compatible with the pda and the software that it'll run e.g vagcom, vtune, lemmiwinks...what ever. aslong ass the pda has a windows platform operating system it should be fine...

visually though it'll probably be ****. also i dont think you can switch maps while the engine is running so you'd prob have to turn the engine off and restart it for the changes to take effect

This sounds ok in theory, but it'll mean you have to have a cable constantly connected to your diag port in the centre consol, not sure i'd want that tbh.

Surely you'd be better have the remap done and a manual type adjustable boost control fitted.

There is another thread around here some place showing an adjustable boost control on a mk4 golf, if i remember correctly try doing a search for that.

i dnt see why you couldnt do it ... i mean if you can get teh required cable and run it in to the console itll be cool

then all youd need to do is buy the required software or code your own with visual basic etc

i assume your thinking of the program as a sort of NOS substitute so your driving along .. standard map then some punk gives you some rage in a clio 172 or a 206 gti ... then you hit the switch the map changes and your ready to race so to speak.?

im not sure ecus run that way on a live update cycle altho i guess you could go on the theory
they run live from the engine variables (constantly changing) so i guess you could trick the ECU to do what you wanted altho youd have to speak to a re-map guy about taht as i have no clue on ECUs

to be fair for the coding to make different maps available all you need do is (the simplest way) just create a website on your PDA with hyper links to apply each different map
would have to see how vagcom works tho but i doubt its the hardest cookie to crack ;)

hmmm would i trust a VB6 application i developed myself to essentially hack into my cars engine management system.....LOL hell no and i'm an IT graduate. might be best to rule out that theory. Most mappers/tuners wouldnt even have a funking clue

the software is out there....with a fancy user interface that allows you to monitor various parameters suchs as boost, temps etc on 'virtual gauges' but its whether they work with the ecu. and like already said, you cable will be constantly plugged in

Wouldn't be possible, vag-com doesn't run on WinCE as it's a different platform, plus to get CC to change you'd have to run Custom Settings, which also doesn't run on WinCE (although it might be possible to convince them to port it).

You can run Vag-Check (www.arlabs.it) on a PDA and it's very good, there are interface cables available, and a bluetooth version.

People have "split" the diag port behind the dash to provide a "hidden" socket so they can leave a cable plugged in all the time.

If you want more than vag-check can give you, you'd be best looking for a car pc with touch screen...
