Noisy Ibiza

Lately my car has got very boomy , road noise like .I suspect it might be a new set of tyres on the front (6000 miles ago). I actually thought I had a flat wheel the other day it was that bad .But pressures are OK, and the wear seems even on both. The tyres were always noisier than my previous michelins but the boomy noise has got worse.
So Im wondering could something else be wrong, like binding brakes ?Wheel bearings are a possibility too at 57 ,000? Any thoughts ?

Have you actually checked the wheel bearings and suspension?
Does the noise get worse at a particular speed?

They are BF Goodrich tyres , and they dont appear to be wearing unevenly. The noise is worse on certain stretches of road , if anything its worse at low speed. I do suspect the tyres havent been balanced properly as the wheel alignment has always been spot on . But as for suspension/wheel bearings ,haven t checked them , so Im debating whether to take it back to the tyre dealer first as it seems too big a coincidence that the car was always quiet until I got them changed. I understand BF Goodrich are made by Michelin ,cheaper but IMO you get what you pay for .

One other thing : coasting downhill with foot on clutch it takes a pretty steep hill to make the car speed up . So Im thinking either the brakes are binding or bearings are clogged up/worn .
Since the cars first MOT is coming up soon, guess Ill have to take it to a garage to get it checked out (££) Esp. as I still havent changed the sidelight bulb, the clip came off today and I cant get it back on.
On a more positive note , I managed to fix the leaking rear washer problem and got the plastic cover back on without breaking it . Thanx to Muddyboots useful guide .

I would say that it will more than likely turn out to be a bearing. I have just had one changed at about 50k miles on the front passenger side.
I put it down to the fact that the previous tyres were cak and were getting low, making them noisy.....

I had the car serviced and when I picked it up the bloke was amazed I hadn't noticed it. I told him that I thought it was tyre rumble, but he assured me it was the bearing and after changing it, it was tons quieter! I was a bit sheepish that I put it down to tyre noise, although as you have mentioned certain road surfaces seem to make more 'rumble' than others which was why I assumed it was not a bearing.

It did seem a bit of a coincidence that the noise started when I got the new tyres though at 50k .Also the car had just been serviced so if it had been a bearing starting to go they would have noticed it ? Tomorrow Im going to the tyre dealer , (I need new back ones anyway) and get them to check the front ones and swap over front and back and see if the noise disappears.
But at 57k it could well be a bearing .

..And thats it sorted. It was the front tyres. Michelins on there now, cars actually a pleasure to drive its so quiet.

Its been an expensive week though, what with that and £30 to change a sidelight bulb (I gave up in the end )
