SCARY experience

Driving home from work last night just driving steadily until i got stuck behind what seemed to be all sunday drivers in the area so when the opportunity to overtake came dropped it to 3rd booted it then 4th and 5th but as soon as putting it in 5th a reaching full boost a massive bang and loss of power whilst overtaking was my first thought. Once i got pulled over and had a look around i had blown the hose off the intercooler. Is this is acommon problem? As its the first time its happened to me and ive lost some confidence in the car.

replace the spring clamps with decent ones is a start, wipe any internal oil off the hose before reconnecting.. and use good quality jubilee type clips which you can do up tight.
some are awkward in the extreme to do mind you as std.

Got towed to my mates garage were i did exactly what you said cleaned internal oil from connecting end and used jubilee clip nipped up tight! very tight.

Had my TIP come off at the turbo whilst on my way to a funeral ...wasnt very happy

When boost pipes blow off, the car cuts out and wont run. If this happens again you can unplug the MAF and limp it back home etc. I had to do this once when my boost hose split at 140 MPH on my race track, needed clean pants after.

Yeh had this the other week when i had my car mapped, took it on a road test and it popped off, alot more boost now soo just popped it back in n drove it back as it wouldnt idle and kept cutting out, piece of metal between the two pipes and 2 jubilee clips and alls well.

Yep did the same on the motorway, overtook some one then BANG ! and had to limp it to a slip road, can be very common on ko3s convertions were the turbo out pipe meats the charge pipe when hot pops off.
