Just for your amusement.

I've got a bog standard W (2000) 1.4 S/.cool ibiza which has now done 82,500 miles. No modifications.

Decided to calculate MPG this week. Put 52 litres in during the week which got me 550 miles.

I drive Walsall to Nottingham every day ... 1st half a mile is 30MPH then onto motorway for 45 miles at 80mph and then 10 miles of a roads at speeds anywhere between 0 and 60mph.

So this works out at 48MPG on Esso 95 unleaded.

Next week I'm gonna run her on 98 and see if it makes any difference. I'll post the results back here.

what you want to do is put a couple of tanks through her first. then the ECU will change the timing. if you do it straight away i dont think you will see any gains.

the cupra and the 1.4 had different gearing. on a 1.4 @ 70 mph according to my GPS im sitting at 3.5K and redline on the 1.4 is something like 5.5k-6k

plus if you sit above 75 i have noticed MPG drops drastically.

i get about 34/40 mpg motorway driving and about 27-30 town driving. It really depends how heavy footed you are. And id like to know how you got 50mpg from a cupra engine as actual figures state 35mpg on average unless your running LPG or vegi oil lol

At 80mph mine runs at 3750rpm.

When I drive at 70mph I get 54mpg. But I'd never get anywhere would I

The purpose of posting these here is more to find out if it is worth running on 98 as it is more expensive or if I should stick to 95.

Interesting replied though ... amazed at the Cupra's efficiency.

I've been thinking of buying a brand new 1.4FS as I do about 26,000 miles a year. I can't bring myself around to diesel but am worried that the MK4 might not be as efficient as old faithful especially as the FS is the chipped 1.4 that gets 100bhp.

you can pretty much ignore that trip computer when you get it remapped... only true way to tell is fill it to the brim and then do your miles and then fill it to the brim again so you know exactly how much you've used.

When i fitted the GT2X with the TT injectors and 3" MAF it even more out, the trip computer reckons something like 38mpg but i don't often get better than 220 miles to a tank which is something like 25mpg, but heh if i want economy i would of bought a soot chucker and gone every where sounding like a transit

My MFA computer used to say 44mpg on IHI however you need to take into account a 3" MAF tube and re-scaled MAF so thats wrong. Used to work out about 30~35mpg on gentle runs and anything down to about 2.2mpg.

I wish I hadn’t started this thread …

Filled up with Esso Super (97 RON) this morning and she started juddering and cutting out again. It happened about 5 times over the 60 mile trip to work – though the latter part of the journey was trouble free.

She would either judder and then carry on as normal or just suddenly cut out. The cutting out happened at motorway speed, followed by the dreaded 3 beeps. Turned the ignition back a position and then back to on position (without engaging starter!) and she carried on until it happened again. On one occasion, she wouldn’t run until I’d turned the key on/off 3 times at which point the EPC light came on. Then after half a mile or so the EPC light went out …

Damn annoying … especially since she’s not done this cutting out thing for 6 weeks now (until today)! I now wonder if it is coincidence as she has done this before [but not as bad] or if the change of fuel has amplified the problem?

Wonder if I’ll get home tonight?
