I just bought a Seat Leon 1.8 20v Turbo Sport .....and i love it !!

however i had a few concerns ,

1. its got 18" debadged VW alloys on it , which look the business, but i wanted to know if that affects performance? what kind of tyres should i have on them ?

2. the traction control light came on yesterday for no apparant reason. it just stayed on until i turned the engine off, but it hasnt come on again since ? any ideas ?

3. and what is the difference between the Sport and the Cupra ??

4. and just finally ... anything i should just keep an eye out for generally with a Leon ?

thanks people :)

Welcome to the forum and great choice of car.

The wheels shouldn't degrade performance. This depends on if the wheels are heavier than "normal", what width the wheels are (225/40/18 then your fine) and the tyre choice.

As for the TCS it shouldn't stay on until the engine switched off. I would get the car diagnosed by a Seat/VW garage with a vagcom and see what error codes come up.

Or if you have a laptop get a vagcom cable and see what the error is. Its about £10 off ebay.

Sport vs Cupra has been done many times, have a look at "Search" at the top of forum.

although simple
also worth checking you hadnt knocked your TCS button when you went to fill up or anything (although unsure if the sport is same as the cupra)

Hi and welcome

Depending on where you are, there are people on here with VAG-COM already that could help. Me included. Where abouts are you?

I would definitely reccomend getting it checked, especially if it happened again.

The Sport and Cupra are essentially the same. Same power and engine. I have a 53 plate Cupra 180 Facelift. I believe yours would be a pre facelift version that they called a 20VT Sport..... Something like that!

Probs to look out for???

I have had hesitation at low revs..... This seems to be cropping up more just lately!! (Pipework off of Inlet Manifold and Trottle Body dirty)

MAF Sensor.... A common problem causing jerky acceleration but no light on dash until its propper fooked!!

I have been lucky so far, other people have had bad leaks into the passenger footwell caused by blocked drain holes and badly fitted Pollen Filter Covers at the base of the Passenger Wiper (RHD).

Great choice of car though mate.. Have you any pics??

cheers mate :)
around West mids at the mo ....will get it Vag com'd asap ...got someone to do it for me next week ...... if i get one myself tho ..are they really easy to use for someone who hasnt got that much experience with cars ?

and do u think if id hit a bit of slippery road and caused one of the wheels to lose grip for a sec , that could have set it off like that ?

If the traction control needs to intervene.. It will flash the light on and off and then stop when you regain grip... It won't stay on unless there is a problem. (or you turn it off)

Also, the fault may not be anything to do with the TC.. My MAF being momentarily unplugged caused the light to come on.

Midlands... Too far from me to help I am afraid...

VAG-COM is easy really. I have found that it has turned me into a right ol' geek as I feel like I need to know everything it does because I find it so interesting.

There are instructions and a dedicated VAG-COM forum on here for the basic stuff, like fault code reading. The deeper you go into it, the more it helps to understand it all. Binary and Hexidecimal coding etc to change some VW/Audi settings. (brings back my old college days).

Damn that post graduation book burning !!!

To be honest, people seem to have more trouble getting ebay cheap cables to work than using the software!!

Its definitely worth getting the real think in my opinion. Expensive but it allows you to do ANYTHING!!

ross-tech are the peeps to use!

Welcome! The difference between the sport and cupra is the turbo! The sport has a KO3 and the cupra a KO3s. They are pretty much the same car but the KO3 is not as good as the KO3s. If your not planning to get load of extra BHP out of it then its no problem! I like to call my sport "an early cupra" Also the bumpers are different. I think thats about it. Loads of info about the turbos if you want to know more, Just do a search!!
