'OIL' flashing on dashboard

Hi

yesterday my dash started flashing saying 'OIL' where my mileage usually is. I filled it with oil and it's still there? i looked at earlier threads and it said about the below reset procedure:

hold the reset button in with ignition off

keep button held in and switch ignition on

keep reset held in for over 10 secs and it'll reset

(is the reset button the one that resets your mileage and change the time with??)

is this safe for me to do? Because it's not been long since it was serviced (start of march) and the oil was really low to be fair. This flashing thing isn't trying to warn me that there's something else wrong to do with oil is it?

It's a tdi 130 sport '03 if that makes a difference?

Thanks

No the reset button is the one under the right hand indicator for resetting the mpg info.

Hmmm i'm sure I reset mine with the indicator botton....

Might have been the service as the useless delaership couldn't be bothered or didn't know how.

Sorry for the missinformation.

they didn't reset my service miles anyway so i'll do both.

Is the procedure right for stopping that oil flashing up? with the holding it in with the ign off etc

Need an ID-ten-T form
I've written it down in one of my posts.

Found it...... ignition off, hold the odometer reset down then turn ignition on and continue holding, then it will flash up oil and then reset, then you can let go. Need to hold about 15secs roughly.

The 'OIL' message is telling you that the car thinks it's due for a service, not that it's low on oil - if the car isn't sue a service then just reset.
